Let's say that I have a character that I loved, and I wanted to put them in the Darkest Dungeon game by recreating all of the character's sprites with sprites in my character's likeness. Let's say I wanted to replace the plague doctor. I'd have the change all their art. Then when I played the game the Plague Doctor would look like my character.
Ah okay, yeah that'd still cost around 100 - 200+ at the very least depending on how far you go. Cuz the person would have to change the armor and weapon icons at the blacksmith on top of the character sprites. Also there's some weird limitations on the animated poses unless the person actually has Spine to edit the animation skeleton. Spine is the program used to animate the characters.
It's a pretty heafty job but totally possible and most likely very expensive. Though it varies from artist to artist of course.
