Shadow and Onyx, my two Cayuga ducklings. Now a few weeks old.
They've bonded with me successfully and will putter around after me at top speed when I let them go outside.
They also like sitting under my apple tree.
I keep them as both beloved pets, and future egg layers. :)

Yupper. Especially since a lot of domesticated bird breeds used as live stock tend to have European and Foreign roots to them. When we got our initial group of chick's and ducklings last year we got a free mystery chick for a breed called a Lakenvelder, which is a breed originating from Germany. Sadly we ended up giving it to someone because it ended up being a roo instead of a hen. Since we have the chickens and ducks for a source of breakfast eggs ma didn't want a male. Which is understandable. We currently have a new batch of babies for larger breeds since some of our current birds love to fly over the fencing to the chicken run. I'll have to take some photos and post them some time. :)
Nngh. I also have chickens. I bought six barred Plymouth Rock pullets this year and I'm pretty damn sure that there is a rooster among them. :/
Even though my birds are meant to be layers as well, I'll probably end up keeping him anyways because nobody in my area would want him unless they were planning on turning him into dinner, which is not a good option for me since I raised my chickens myself and they are like my bebes to me. :/
In any case, I'll be taking a complaint to the store if he does end up being a rooster since it even says pullets on my receipt.

From what ma was telling me, you're suppose to be able to sex the birds by their wings. I don't quite remember which is which though. Our main birds are some Barred Rocks, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Speckled Hamburg's, Americana's, Rhode Island Reds, Black Stars and the ducks. The new babies are Cochins, Brahma's, Salmon Faverols and some Buff Laced Polish.
As for the Lakenvelder roo, ma made sure he went to someone who wasn't going to eat him. Especially since he looked like more of a show bird than dinner. :)
