The rhythmic dull scraping sound of a blade sliding repeatedly across the wooden cutting board could be heard anywhere in the kitchen. Two female figures in aprons stood at the counter prepping ingredients at the same time. “Am I slicing them small enough Sakura?” asked the white furred calico feline stopping her work for a moment.
“Yes. Good job Maneki.” replied the pink furred vixen happily in reply. Both of Sakura’s twin tails swayed behind her softly as she scooped rice out of a rice cooker into handful sized lumps.
“Thanks again for teaching me how to make rice balls. I’ve always been curious.” said Maneki as she took the pieces of cooked chicken she was cutting and put them between them next to the rice Sakura was preparing.
“It’s my pleasure. Now these are going to be very simple. We’ll save the fancy stuff for a later lesson. We’re going to pack the marinated chicken into the rice like this, and shape them into triangles with our hands to start.” said Sakura as she demonstrated. Maneki smiled as she watched the vixen work.
“Once that’s done you wrap a piece of seaweed around it like so and you’re done.” explained Sakura as she showcased the finished snack. Maneki picked up a handful of rice and tried herself, but when she’d finished shaping the rice it looked nothing like a triangle. It was more like a ball. The calico cat blushed a little embarrassed as she looked at it.
“Aww it looked so easy when you did it a minute ago.” she said a little disappointed.
“Don’t worry Maneki. It’s a little harder to get the technique down than people think. Try again.” said Sakura as she giggled lightly. Maneki puffed her cheeks out a little frustrated as she picked up a new handful of rice. She was determined to get this right. “She really is amazing.” said Sakura a little absently as she watched.
“Did you say something Sakura?” asked Maneki suddenly, turning her head to face the vixen.
“I…I just was saying that you’re amazing. You asked me to teach you this so that you can make them for Sly right?” asked Sakura.
“Yes. Though his favorite type of food is Italian, Master loves rice balls. He said that your mom used to make them all the time as snacks for you, him, and Pearl, and that you know the technique she used. I asked you to teach me so that I can make them for him at home.” said Maneki with a smile.
“You really love him huh?” asked Sakura next.
“I do. He pulled me and Lucky out of a very bad situation that could have affected us for the rest of our lives and hasn’t asked for much in return. I want to do all I can for him to make him happy to show my appreciation for that. Though I know that it’ll never be equal to what he’s done.” explained Maneki with a slight blush. Sakura nodded at the calico’s story as she listened. “But more than that…I’ve had an undeniable connection with Master since I first came here. I always felt comfortable and safe around him, and then I got to know him. The admiration grew into love quickly after that.” added Maneki solemnly after. A small smile crossed the vixen’s face as she heard Maneki’s words. She knew that the feline loved her adoptive brother. They had a very close relationship as Master and pet. That much was obvious. She’s often thought about it when thinking about how she herself waited so long to tell him that she loves him; a regret that haunts her to this day. “You love him too don’t you?” asked Maneki next, taking Sakura by surprise.
“Love? Y-Yes. Of course. He’s my brother after all.” said Sakura after fumbling a little with her words.
“No I mean more than that. You love him just as I do don’t you?” asked Maneki with a knowing smile. Sakura was taken off guard. Did Maneki really know? Should she tell her?
“D-Don’t be silly. I mean I…I…Listen Maneki can I ask you something?” asked Sakura deciding to ask something she had been meaning to ask the red collared feline.
“Sure. Is everything okay?” asked the calico concerned suddenly.
“Yes. I’m fine. I’ve just…have you ever had a recurring dream that was of a certain…theme?” asked Sakura cautiously.
“Like a nightmare?” asked Maneki next.
“N-No…Not a nightmare...Like the people in them are as they usually are as I know them, but what’s different is me. What I’m doing or how I’m reacting.” said Sakura blushing lightly as she thought of the dreams she’s been having involving herself, the calico, and Sly.
“Lucky had that happen once actually.” said Maneki.
“Really?” asked Sakura quickly.
“Yes. She wouldn’t give me the details, but she said that she was having a recurring dream that had her acting differently than normal, and I could see that it was unnerving her. Maybe even scaring her.” explained Maneki.
“How did she get them to stop?” asked Sakura intrigued.
“She asked Master about it, and he told her that her dreams could be her mind’s way of telling her that how she’s acting in them might be what she really wants. He told her that the next time she noticed it happening if possible she should try to interact with the dream.” said Maneki.
“And it worked?” asked Sakura.
“I think so. She never brought it up again, and she’s been a lot happier.” said Maneki as she patted the triangular handful of rice in her hands. Sakura looked down to see the shaped rice ball in the calico’s hands.
“You did it. Good job Maneki.” said the vixen with a smile. Maneki giggled happily at her accomplishment. “But…It looks like you forgot to put the chicken in it.” said Sakura adding in her own amused giggles as Maneki gasped in surprise. She watched Maneki scramble to fix the mistake as she thought about what the calico had just told her. “What I really want…” her thoughts lingered a moment, before she went back to helping Maneki.

A cute chapter of making rice balls, but with a darker undertone. I know I should read through your stories in order from start to finish, but for right now this is the first I've heard of Luck's dreams, and it seems like too much of a coincidence that both Luck and Sakura could have immersive, incredibly realistic, fetish-oriented dreams that then lead them to act a different way towards Sly.
You have caught my interest with this series, but also left me curious and worried that Sly has been tampering around with free will where he really shouldn't.
Keep up the good work with the writing! I'm intrigued to see where this ends up.

I can put your suspicions to rest now and state that no Sly would never tamper with the free will of those he considers friends and family.
His powers don't work on free will anyway. He can "nudge" a person's thoughts toward something, but they can resist it if they realize it's not a thought they would naturally have.

I didn't think that he would tamper with free will or people's decisions--out of character for him. Good to have that confirmed.
I am intrigued though as to whether there is an in-story reason for Luck and Sakura having the same sort of life-changing dreams. I recognize that the out of story reason is because their author likes that kind of scenario, and I don't have a problem with that, because it means 1, sexy hyper-real dream sequences, and 2, sexy real scenes as those characters develop in that direction.
