That would add a superior degree of additional defense for our little water starter here.
I like the menacing pose Squirtle has here. He seems like he just stepped up and is ready to take on a rival to whom he feels he will surely win against this time. Very nice.
Now if only Squirtle could find some padding that was both thick for defense, but wouldn't drag him down if he were hit with a water attack, or got wet? Swim diapers aren't exactly as thick as a standard diaper and he definitely doesn't want to lose his defensive advantage. :)

it doesnt just add defense =3 it also adds special defense and a chance of absorbing water and poison type moves
however, it kinda lowers speed, but its worth it! one time, mural the froakie was confused and he accidentally used water pulse on me, but my diaper just absorbed it up =3
