Like some friends already know, I have big plans for the Eurofurence, my very first con :3
Note, those are the first prototypes and the visible remains of paint is due to a mistake with the molds.
New molds out of clay are currently drying~
The material is two-component latex. Not very cheap (~25$ for almost 1kg which will suffice for approximately 150-200 scales) but the texture is great and a lot easier to work with than with the cheap silicone I tried the last few months...
By the way, if people are interested and it works out, I would make a little tutorial in the end ^_^
It doesn't require any special tools so far and cost for the molds is barely 20$.

Hehe, glad you like. Since making the molds yourself, you can create whatever size you would want. With the latex, theres absolutely no risk that it rips. At a thickness of 1-2mm it is extremly robust. Those large non-curved tear shaped ones in the top right and lower left are about 2.5 x 1.5 inches in size but I also do smaller ones than seen here. A full body might need several hundreds. I don't relly count myself a fursuiter plus the con will be in summer. That would be terribly hot x-x
So personally will only do an upper body and a half-mask plus I'll probably work in some fur onto the chest.
By metallic you mean the surface of the scales? Maybe one could achieve that by spraying the surface with some type of paint.
You can put color pigments into the silikon (actually will do that, trying to make some UV active or glow-in-the-dark scales ;3 ) but that alone will probably not give a metalic effect.
Attaching those scales to any sort of fabric will be the hardest part. I'm not sure myself how. No type of glue I had in the house was able to stick to it xD Barely anything can be attached to latex actually. Not sure whether the freshly mixed compound would attach on already tried latex to work as glue though. If yes, that would be perfect of course.

I was more thinking about metallic-looking zentai suit. There are ones that are silver and shiny while still being 100% spandex. I think using fresh latex as glue would be best too, but you'd have to have something to stretch the suit out in that section, and that would be troublesome. Still, it would be a dream to make that work, especially since I could get a suit for females and use a crossdressing piece for breasts, a draconic mask with the same scales, and BOOM, I'd have Sakura. :3
Hmm, the scales would be waterproof but not the rest.. I sadly lack the skill to achieve something like that, even if I'd definitely like. A fur/scalesuit which works in the water would be amazing xD
Hmm.. technically those scales could be applied to a neoprene diving suit~
