Ardin stood at the edge of the cliff, staring out over the stormy sea. He watched as the winds whipped up the waves, feeling his heart churn in time with the churning waters. A tear ran down his cheek, hidden by the salty spray off the ocean. The large blue dragon was sad, lost within his anguish. His love, Kzixel, had recently died, sacrificing herself to save him in battle with a much larger, more powerful dragon. Ardin felt his body stiffen and then shake as fresh tears welled in his eyes at the memory. He watched the waves break against the cliff, thinking of his lost love. She was still there, ever present in his thoughts where he could see her beautiful face, the vibrant pink of her scales, and her heavenly voice.
"Ardin..."
Ardin sighed sadly, her voice had always filled him with hope and joy.
"Ardin..."
The blue dragon looked about as he heard Kzixel's voice a second time. He frowned. The first time he thought it had all been in his mind. The second call was different though. It had sounded closer.
"Ardin?"
Ardin felt his heart-rate increase as the voice came a third time, sounding closer still. he continued to look about, eyes scanning his surroundings. Why was this happening to him? Was his mind finally breaking at the sorrow that afflicted him?
"Ardin!"
The blue dragon gasped as he spotted a figure ghosting through the stormy clouds and he called out in hope.
"Kzixel?"
The figure paused momentarily before surging forward. It dropped, landing on the ground and Ardin wiped at his teary eyes. Before him stood his love. Kzixel fidgeted, her hands held before her. A smile slowly crossed her lips and she jumped, wings fanned out as she flew towards him.
"ARDIN!"
Ardin ran, racing towards the pink dragon, arms open.
"KZIXEL!"
The two met at speed, grabbing and hugging each other tightly. Kzixel looked up at her love, tears of joy in her eyes. She sniffed, nuzzling in.
"Oh, Ardin. I found you."
Ardin kissed her.
"I, I thought you were dead," Ardin said. "I couldn't find any trace of you after the fight."
Kzixel reached up and wiped at his cheeks, brushing away his tears.
"I'm so sorry, Ardin. Things just happened so fast. I..."
She burst out crying.
"I'm so sorry you had to worry about me."
Ardin smiled, happy to have his love back.
"It's OK, Kzixel," he said. "You're back now. That's all that matters."
The couple looked into each others eyes. Kzixel smiled.
"I missed you, Kzixel," Ardin said.
"I missed you as well," Kzixel replied. "All I want to do now is spend time with you and snuggle."
Ardin chuckled.
"I'd like that, Kzixel. And I know the perfect place we can do that."
The pair let each other go and walked off hand-in-hand. Ardin felt at peace, like a calm had finally replaced the depression from earlier. He leaned in towards Kzixel, the female dragon mirroring his actions, and Ardin came to a conclusion. He had lost Kzixel, his love, but by the fortune of the gods, had gotten her back. He would not lose her again. Once things had calmed down he would pledge himself to her and ask her to marry him. They would have their happily ever after...
