Side-Striped Jackal Field Guide (by CadmiumTea)
[re-post because the first posting was lost in the FA attacks/restore]
This is a sketch page drawn by CadmiumTea that illustrates the typical characteristics of a side-striped jackal (canis adustus). It is part of a series of these Field Guides that I ordered to illustrate the various sorts of jackals to help show the differences in their head shapes and other characteristics. I also have Field Guides for realistic Black-Backed Jackals (canis mesomelas), realistic Asian Golden Jackals (canis aureus), realistic African golden jackals (aka African Golden Wolves, canis anthus), and typical Anubian/Khemetic Jackals.
Osiris_the_jackal is the model for this Field Guide, because he was one of the very few people with a Side-Striped Jackal 'sona. I asked him if he'd be interested in being the model for the side-striped jackal Field Guide and he agreed. Side-striped jackals are much less common than black-backed jackals in 'furry' fandom for some reason, try using the FA search on each of those terms:
-- side-striped jackal = 180 results
-- black-backed jackal = 1022 results
These Jackal Field Guides are intended to show the typical characteristics of the real animal species as applied to a specific anthro character. They are not intended to be complete reference for the real species nor are they intended to be a character refsheet. Osiris_the_jackal has a very nice personal refsheet which is worth a look: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12782861/
CadmiumTea offered these Field Guide commission over here: https://www.weasyl.com/journal/9286.....mmissions-open and might still be willing to do more of them if someone wants one for another species.
Some other commissions that I have gotten to help illustrate the different types of jackals are here:

From the very important research I've done, side striped jackals are the shy lanky bois of the jackal family, black backed jackals are the angry smols, golden jackals are the preppy dude-bros (the white sheep in a black sheep family), and the Anubis Jackals literally are not Jackals, they're edgey wolves that accidentally followed the wrong family at Disneyland
Good observations and Excellent humor! I'd say Anubian jackals are more like Pharaoh Hounds that took a wrong turn on an Egyptian pyramid tour. Then there's the African Golden Wolves, who disguised themselves as golden jackals after all the bad publicity about wolves from the 'three pigs' and 'little red' incidents and the following genocide campaign.
