Back in February, the water supply line to my fridge's ice maker sprung a leak. The flooding got under the wall you see to the upper right and dampened the hardwood laminate flooring that I had installed not two years ago.
This posed a problem, as hardwood laminate is notorious for soaking up water, then either curling up or rotting. So a broad swath of it had to be pulled up, and the insurance kicked in to pay for it to be replaced.
That replacement is what you see now. It's all vinyl laminate, so it won't act like the hardwood if it gets wet, and all new baseboards were installed as well. It's also a gray, weathered color ('washed oak' as it says on the label) that goes well with the paint scheme. It also unaccountably makes the room look a bit bigger.
This picture was taken last week, after the installation and before I started moving things back in.
