Im gonna try to answer to what I think you mean.
They aren't "parallel" in the sense that their bodies aren't facing each-other perfectly because in general I dont think people stand perfectly parallel especially in a setting like this. Also because its slightly more artistic for the bodies to be slightly turned (IMO)
Body language is key I believe and to me this picture speaks so many words, not only with facial features but placing as well. If they were to face directly, not only would they look flat, but also the emotion and the mood would be different than how I intended.
