I actually barely touched smudge tool for this (I only used it briefly to blend some of the balk shading I did before I started the fur) :D I simply used a small pixel brush, and sat there and drew every individual hair using a few different tones of each colour layer by layer XD Its very tedious.
Looking so very nice, so very nice indeed. Have you drawn each strand of fur separately or did you trick it with the smudge tool or overlay layers?
Also, I feel compelled to suggest you pay equally amount of attention to the background, especially how light/dark it'll be. As it stands now, it's a little hard to make out where the character stops and the background starts, since it's all overall on the darker side of the spectrum and there are no outlines. Maybe consider a little backlighting? But I'm sure you have it well in hand. :)
Looking forward to seeing this finished.

Heya. Each strand of fur was drawn individually ^^, as for the BG don't worry that will be fully detailed with props and the illusion of a wall. This is actually a cropped down version of the full image I am working on which can be seen here - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2010812/ There will also be more attention to overall lighting and light source once I have the full image planned out. This is a really new experience for me, so I am no doubt doing things in a very strange order as to how some would do it XD But hopefully it will work out in the end!
Thanks for the critique, its very welcome :D

You're beginning to feel the lure of the Insanely Detailed Artwork Disorder, don't 'cha?

Seriously, I've always found it strangely addictive and in the end very satisfying to go as far as I can in terms of details. Even though it means my output is negligible...

Haha I definitely am. I have only dabbled in it in a really tiny shot before for a dev art ID years ago (http://dirtyfox-frostdragon.deviant.....kin4U-43950423) , but nothing like this XD
It is addictive, though ill admit I keep falling prey to loosing interest now and then XD

Oh god this is coming along gorgeously! T_T
Teach me your ways! I wanna know what technique you used besides endless amounts of patience and pain tolerance lol. I don't tend to do detailed digital work either because damn, ow. And time consuming and I'm all about immediate gratification! *thumbs up* X3
But seriously woman, this is WOW. I cannot wait to see the end product! The level of detail you're pumping into this is AWESOME.
