twas deep enough to have to sit down in order to escape, all in all it got down to about waist deep in the sucking tidal muck. Ahh the dangers of nature photography! But what fun and a total challenge!

I'm quite familiar with this sort of sediment. It's the kind that can get deep enough get up to your thighs, but then you can't go any lower because under the top layer is a much stickier, thicker mud that you just can't get into. It's also the kind that is unforgiving. Be careful. I've been in one situation where I got deep into clay where it was so difficult to get out, I dislocated my left knee. And the worst part was, I WAS... well, let's just say I could've been arrested for indecent exposure. I had to forcefully snap it back. Manged. Never went to the hospital.
Always be careful, as fun and relaxing as this can be, it can be dangerous too. :P

It indeed can be dangerous, extremely so if precautions aren't made, and even with everything going right, something can go horrendously wrong. Safety is HUGE out here in the backwoods marshes and swamps. And I have once gotten myself into something that was particularly treacherous, I had to dig my way out of something that was only up to my knees! Had to sit down, and dig flex, dig, flex, and dig some more just to get free. The much was ooze like clay on the surface then a layer of somewhat gritty sand below that and the sand turned to a substance that seriously seemed like solidified concrete it was so unmoving that I did get somewhat panicked by it. But I did come prepared, I had a kick board that I sat upon and dug my feet out of the muck and sand, and vowed to not go mudding in that place. Great surface layer stuff, but that below layer stuff was Bad News!
This activity is not for the faint of heart, it is both exciting, and thrilling in a sort of adreniline junkie sort of way. But if you come prepared and are prepared for many circumstances, than it can be fun!

I can say I am honestly blessed to live where i do. I can drive 10 minutes and be able to get this sort of picture. So, thats 10 minutes to make it to our coastal waterways, and about an hour or so drive and I can be in the mountains and snow. (even this late in the summer) I live around the western side of Washington State.

I wish i could find places like that. I sometimes bike long distance to take good picture with my camera
of good dirty or muddy places. Sometimes i want to dive and wallow myself in the mud where i took the picture from but disepointing there always too many people around no matter how far i go.
