I've met one or two people who complain about Disney's Captain Hook not being as serious or terrifying like in the original novel. Well, as you figured, I don't mind the funny Captain Hook, as long as it's not the cheap knock off from The New Adventures of Peter Pan. So if he was taken more seriously, I could guess that the captain would look something like this.
