I didn't say that. :) Furries in general are pretty illogical, considering. I just always find it hard to -draw- characters with more than...say 3 tails. They're beautiful, yes, but the spiiiine.
Also, I needed to say illogical because I've been watching a million episodes of Star Trek lately and Spock is starting to rub off on me. :(

In animals with multiple tails (due to mutation), the bone that normally leads to just one tail vertebra (I think this bone is called the sacrum?) leads out to multiple.
Before and after the sacrum, the spinal cords are normal... and I've thought too much about sacrums myself (being a nine-tailed illogical skunk).

Come on and sing along:
"It's a kind of magic..."
Seriously. I will never understand why people always need to go bigger and bigger.#
In the legends a 9-tail is the most powerful kitsune and already nearly unbeatable.
Not that power matters with a species which specialities lie in shapeshifting, illusion and trickery.
Oh, there are rumors of a 10-tailed female kitsune, but considering the already nearly godlike status of the 9-tails, I don't want to know how powerful she is.

i wanted to point something out here, by the way.
more commonly, when they gain their ninth tail, their fur changes to be white or gold. they then cease to be just kitsune and become 九尾の狐 (kyubi no kitsune). these gain a semi omnipotent power. usually it is said to be the ability to hear any thing and/or see any thing anywhere.
nowhere is it written that once they cease gaining a tail after the ninth. it is just kitsune with nine tails are most common in folklore. and, for the record five, seven and one tail(s) are also quite common.
no reason... just felt like posting a response.

That's pretty interesting, the version I was always told by someone who played a kitsune was that they got nine tails and then omnipotence... but few chose to stay like this long because when you're a trickster, knowing everything makes life pretty boring, there's no challenge anymore. So, they usually go through some manner of being born again as a one-tail and going through the process all over again...
The version I had heard was that no kitsune had more than nine tails was because the tenth tail was reserved for only one -- Inari, patron diety of the kitsune. Thus, if you met a ten-tailed fox, you were in serious trouble.
(Then again, even a one tailed kitsune's trouble enough. But I digress.)

if you are talking about 稲荷, you are pretty far off. not only in buddhism, but we in shinto tend to disagree with inari being depicted as a kitsune. human type female, male... dragon... snake... sometimes depicted with or riding a white kitsune or fox, but almost never as a kitsune itself (which i will admit is found in some localized peasant stories, but none of the actual legends).
kitsune are the messengers of inari. not all of them, but the pure white ones.
to be completely honest, to discuss any of the five kami which make up inari would be complicated and would require much more space than just here.

ahh i see nice detail tho jsut the fact that you couldent see it up close shows your talent!
but i also know with the bike *of that certian kind* hides all of the gears and pipes which are desperite for muhc much detail! useing the bike type part to cover the complex parts was smart just incase soemthign happened because the inside parts to the bike are so hard to do
and nice

I only have 3 tails. That's enough.
I must admit though seeing a 20 tailed kitsune is quite a sight. He's handsome and I like his colors. But in RL that would be ever so inconvenient. Just washing them all and keeping them clean would be a chore in itself. I would always be worried of slamming a door on one. 20 chances to get tail pinched. But don't get me wrong. He IS beautiful!

20 tails? Well, all the commenters concerned about mundane issues with having that many tails forget that the number of tails that a kitsune has is a measure of its age and power. This guy must be Godlike!! He could drive that bike though a building and watch it explode and walk away saying, "THAT WAS COOL!!"

Who's awesome? That's right, you're awesome.
Thanks for sticking up for me, as illogical as I am.... you know... barring the fact that I'm a bi-pedal, walking, talking, adulation to japanese culture and presumptuous little git to boot.
^_^

Ok, now that I'm done responding to all those posts that caught my eye (other than the "that's illogical" or the recurring "How does he get anywhere/not get his tails torn off?") I want to post to you.
I absolutely adore you for doing this. When it came in the mail and my mate surprised me with it, I was floored.
The ungodly amount of time I would have to put into something HALF as good would see me as dust before completion.
Thank you for such an excellent job on my fursona.
Thank you for the extreme attention to detail.
Most of all, thanks for making my wife as happy as you did with such an excellent piece.
