Im not sure why i havent posted this... its actually from last year =P
anyway,
this was a low-polygon model which i originally planned on importing into UT-2004 (which i still dont own btw)
so please remember this is a GAME MODEL
NOT meant to be completely detailed or accurate =P
and yes, he's wearing a DragonForce shirt ^.=.^

Its a critical adjustment. From the Edit poly modifier, go into polygon mode and scroll down to Polygon Properties, you'll find smoothing groups (the 32 numbered buttons). For a quick preview, just select all polys and click autosmooth.
Experiment with it, its very important for low poly models.

Smoothing group adjustment may not solve the whole problem in this case, especially if turbosmooth ends up playing a role.
The triangulation in the wings and a few other areas may need revision. In general, it is a good idea to avoid using long, thin triangles, on surfaces such as the wing membranes next to thicker ones, as it causes weirdness when smoothing or skinning. Wing membranes can be a pain anyway, but polygon layout problems only add to this. :)
Btw, post a wire frame!
