Something I doodled in my sketchbook and just decided to drop in quicky color at the last minute.
I sometimes get really annoyed by some of the people who attend art school. They're pretty much the epitome of pseudo-intellectuals.
And this doodle is based off of a particular guy in my photography class, who was... well basically like what's depicted here.
Of course, this was the same guy who talked about how his theme for one of the photography projects was how society likes to keep women at home and contained in the kitchen. Lol for the fact that at that time Hilary Clinton was running for president at the time and then later Sarah Palin was the vice-presidential nominee for the Republican party.

Well... there'll always be discrimination as long as there will be people with any sort of differences whatsoever.
This is actually more pointed out towards pseudo-intellectualism of artists rather than sexism itself. In the art world, there are a fair amount of pieces that deal with the issue of feminism, so much so that the theme almost starts to lose it's punch. After you've seen work after work of "vagina art", you start to not care about it anymore because the theme has been beaten to death and the artists are now shouting, and no one else is listening but the art critics who eat up nearly anything considered "avant-garde", anyway.
So... if you want to do a piece on feminism or the oppression of women, don't do a piece themed around a cliche archetype (the 1950's housewife) that everyone and their dog now pokes fun at anyway, and then act like you're an intelligent, holier-than-thou thinker for doing a "feminist piece". The effect is even MORE lost when you do have women starting to hold prominent political positions.
There are still many issues on women's rights and these issues can be addressed in a more stirring way that just taking the easy-out of using a recognizable, but over-used image.
And just because you do a piece of artwork with a political meaning behind it, that automatically does not make you someone special.
I guess that was the point I was trying to convey. Sorry if it came off wrong. I oftentimes get caught up in the moment and then type stuff down without realizing that later it probably looks like I'm saying something other than what was meant.
And also sorry for the stupid-long reply.

Hahahaha art students are HILARIOUS. 4 years of snooty graphic designers, psuedo hippy/snobby/high fine artists, and animators/illustrators who were all talk and no walk = my college experience. There was a fair share of AMAZING artists and people too, but yeah.
IT'S ABOUT THE ~*ART*~

We do still have a lot of issues with repression of women, but not on the same scale.
Like how a lot of places won't hire women to do things like unload a truck, they'd rather put them in the clothing department. It is rather insulting.
And .. if Palin is going to be my female example of anything, I think I'm going to try to get surgery to become a man.

I realize that. The thing that annoys me though is when people use the cliche archetype of the 1950s housewife (when we are beyond that point in history) and then act like they're someone who is super-intellectual because they did a "political piece". You can do a more poignant political piece using imagery that is more relevant and stirring, but no! 1950's housewife is the easy-out.
Well... like her or not it's still notable that she was the first female vice-presidential nominee. It's the same thing as like Obama or not he's still the first black president.
In terms of this, it's more just a point of reference to see how far the views of society have progressed in terms of women's and minority's rights.

oh don't get me wrong, I think most feminism is fake and overplayed. Plus most of them now talk about women superiority and thats not what it was all about.. equalities not better.
See .. I don't like her because she only got the spot because she was a women. And what did they do with her? Put her in pretty clothing and try to keep her away from the mic when it wasn't a set script. She was there to be a women and make females vote for her. Because she was a women. It wasn't an equality thing. At all.
I'm sorry, I don't like such debates. Because half of it I don't feel as strongly as I come off. Like .. ok Palin I do, but I don't want to argue womens rights with you. Because you are right. So there is nothing to argue. Yes,

My friend came up with the term "Vaginatastic" for such attitudes of women superiority. Now that's all I can think about.
I've heard that... and I've heard other various reasons for as to why she got the spot, like how she appealed to the more conservative of the conservatives because some people felt McCain was not "conservative" enough. I've also heard how they put her up there as a way to get the spotlight back on their campaign, a way to get the "MILF" votes, or whatnot.
I really wouldn't know the true reasons as to why she got the spot because I've heard so many views as to why she got it... each of them having their own personal slant and political leaning influencing it.
That's fine.
To be honest, I've never been too big on debating anyway. I always worry about the risk of sounding like a total idiot. Plus, this is especially true with debates over the internet, animosities between people can rise. This especially sucks on sites like this because this is an art site and normally people who watch each other for the art would be repelled by each other for a completely unrelated reason.
