SECRET PLACE
Print edition 6 out of 6.
This takes several inspirations, so I will branch it down.
Title: "Secret Place" is a song done by a friend (Klare) who was connected with a FFR indie musician named "SleeplessDragn". I was a fan of his(?) work when I was pretty active there and there was a musicans hub website hosted by the same folks before it became extinct. Klare made a song called "Secret Place", and was meant not to be released until the date due, but is very nice to give me the file so I can have a listen, and of course I fell in love with it! Its nowhere to be found and I can't upload it for respect, but its happy-core and the various samples make me think of collages or "Wonderland". So that's where I got the title for this from! I'm sure one day and if I can get permission from Klare or SleelessDragn if he/she is still around, I will share the song to you all...
Collage: Professor wanted all students to do a collage to tell a story. A narrative. At first I want to do something dark like a expansion of "Broken Cat Dolls", but it almost turned into a complex manga page and it's hard to tell a story in ONE PAGE. So on my sketchbook, I have two characters falling into wonder and of various shapes, so I was like "fuck it" and make the background collage a falling rabbit hole full of stuff! I also wanted to do a mix media composition with a mix of traditional for the BG and digital for the character art and Photoshop effects... The character choice...
Characters: Instead of "Broken Cat Dolls", I want to do the protagonists of this potential idea to go along with the insane dolls, so I grabbed Yuucie, my Undertale OC and "Asfell", a monster who takes the form of a certain Monster King from that popular game and re-shape his character into a scientist that is also a Indiana Jones. To avoid obvious copoyright (even if I am not going to mass produce this to sell to a artist table. 6 editions is enough...), I have to re-design the character to fit with Yuucie's sub-species. He's still no goat and no rabbit... But the mix is kind of there... I probably have a father complex too, so I base him on the memories I spent with my dad and with ideal traits I want to see in a father figure with a bit of charm and plenty of smarts. He and Yuucie alone are also a tribute to my experience in a Undertale RP, which sadly I have to let go of the "base" character when me and a partner really messed things up (more like a plan got blown by the fuse). So it's hard to let go, BUT I know the legacy will go on, especially in hope I will continue to re-shape "Asfell" (which needs a new name soon) to the point he can be more original in both character and design. He will most likely stay like that thanks to this print design. U w U
Medium: CYMK silk screen print method. Do I need to say more? I do admit that this was tedious, but it was a interesting project, and far one of the most complex designs I have ever done, especially since I get to keep the original colors of the digital edition (STASH: sta.sh/01bsdyvxn5ba ). Some other editions did not go as I planned (like a missing color leak), but this edition was closest to the original.
