This big SOB was done as part of a final project back in 3rd year of my major. I decided to make a series of gods for a mythology that never existed. The jar next to him is meant to be an offering vessel.
Asbestos is made with hand-sculpted parts and the jar is wheel-thrown, but unlike the rest of my stuff they were done using a method called soda-firing. This is where baking soda is injected into the kiln, where it vaporizes and then sticks to the work in the kiln. It gives pretty neat results depending on the kind of clay you used and if there's other stuff on the pot too. His eyes are polymer clay.
