Figured it's time to show this glowey beast to the general public.
Say hello to the Shelley. A species of my design, and one that I'm very proud of. I'm still working out the details on the species, such as where they're from, and whatnot. and who knows, I may produce reference snapshots at a later date.
In the meantime, here is the current iteration of the Shelley!
Shelleys are blind, for the most part. They can see electrical currents, and have an acute sense of hearing, which allows them to navigate with relative accuracy.
If need be, they can emit an ultrasonic chirl to audibly 'see' things close to them in greater detail.
They're carnivores, and focus on smaller critters. though they may pursue larger prey if desperate for food.
Shelleys do not sexually reproduce. Instead, they're capable of producing genetically different offspring, by splicing the DNA of the food they eat with their own shortly before reproduction, which the Shelley needs to make a conscious effort to do. The process is not permanent, and the Shelley's DNA resets back to normal roughly a week after the eggs are laid.
Because of this, While Shelleys are capable of engaging in sex, they do not posses a very strong sex drive. As a result, It is not considered taboo, with it being little more than a sign of absolute trust, and not something exclusive to one or two partners.
