"Never underestimate the power of Coin. By itself, it is just a mere trading tool, but it can buy you the strength, skills and equipment you lack. If even for a short time."
-Claire Heartseeker-
Centuries have passed since the first trade agreements were passed in Nova. The beginnings of simple truces and ceasefires made by many of the races after the Genesis War.
With many of the gods gone or dead. the races were left confused and without direction. Many servants of them such as the Dragons left with no real objectives; tools of war crafted by their former benefactors. These races recognized it was better to heal old wounds and rebuild their lands. Unwilling to continue warring, each race saw it better to mind their own problems, and such was the first agreement between the races made. A simple. "You leave me alone, and I'll leave you alone."
Time passed and the races of Nova continued to develop and expand their territories, but it was clear that they would eventually run out of native resources to sustain their expansion. With no desire to start another war over resources, it became clear that exchange would be the best way to achieve their quotas.
History has since forgotten whom signed the first trading agreements. The oldest attestment comes from the Dragon Archives that detail trading between their race and the Foxen. As commerce became more intricate, Trading Houses were established with entire families dedicated to managing trade between races from transport to transactions. This was first done with over complicated contracts and exchange letters that eventually were refined into simpler manuscripts until one day Rodencian House Silvarie cemented the concept and distribution of what Novans know today as "Coin".
Silver was mined from their homelands and developed into Silvaire Tokens; engraved pieces of silver that served as proof of value and trade in Rodencian lands. It eventually became widespread outside their homelands. Dubbed "Silvaris" it saw wide use by traders. Other Trading Houses took note and began creating their own currencies. These new tokens were made from different metals of varying worth. Merchants began to assign values to each, such as the polished iron tokens made by the Iron Working Houses that Wolfen knew as "Itons". These tokens were designated of inferior worth to higher tier tokens such as Silvaris and thus used for smaller scale trading than their silver counterparts. Above Silvaris were pale golden coins crafted by the Harpy Trade House of Shala. These coins, or "Shalas" as they came to be known were used for the most exquisite of contracts within trade.
In the coming years traders mixed the use of tokens and unintentionally forced the development of more agreements on the use and regulation of currencies throughout Nova. An agreement was reached to finally unify currencies into modern day Coin, and each given a value respectively. In celebration of this agreement the small trading post of Shakan was created and further grown into the Great Merchant city of modern Nova; a central trading hub used as a gathering point for traders and individuals from all walks of live.
