He's less "cute" and a bit more "lean", also made some changes to his face and eyes so his eyebrows aren't "floating"

Mario's generic design is that of a "cute pudgy plumber", but I was asked to give him a tougher, leaner look.

Fair'nuff. Maybe giving him a jaw in his profile view could help. The standard design has one, too.
