R4-CRD was a modified R4-series Astromech Droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton. He served in the Clone Wars alongside his master, a Mandalorian mercenary named Keljo Malon. They fought in multiple battles, or rather, Malon fought while R4 provided support, such as hacking and assistance in aerial combat. Overall, they were an inseparable duo. That was, until the Battle of Kashyyk. R4 was being upgraded, while Malon fought in battle, which resulted in his unfortunate death on the battlefield, taken out by Separatist Air Support.
When R4 finally was released from the shop, he waited for his master. He waited for several months. Once R4 realized his master wasn't coming for him, he set out in search of his lost master. For thirty years, he searched, wandering from planet to planet, galaxy to galaxy, in hopes of finding his Mandalorian mate. Finally, he returned to Mandalore, only to find the grave of his master, Keljo Malon.
Heartbroken, R4 ran away, only to wander the universe for 20 more years. Eventually, he was found by the Resistance, where he worked effectively in repairs, communication, and hacking. However, R4 was stationed aboard the Silius, a Resistance cruiser, which was destroyed in a magnetic storm. R4 was able to escape, but at a cost to himself. The magnetic field shorted out and destroyed his inhibition unit. He began to display erratic, impulsive, and sometimes dangerous behavior toward other droids. The reason behind his behavior toward droids, as opposed to sentient beings, is because remember, his master, Keljo Malon, was killed by droids.
