I decided I'd go ahead and submit this here. Along with a few others. I created this species on a whim, called it the Rak'tumun. Below I've included a write up that was meant to be read as though you found a scroll in a high magic fantasy setting.
Below written in some sort of red ink is a strange document found rolled onto a lengthy scroll hidden in a dustier section of the library. No one is sure how it got there, only that it had less dust then the section it was squirreled away in. The red ink smells faintly of cherry blossoms and blood when closely inspected by a nose. It also appears to have been dictated with a third person writing it out
Species:
Rak'tumun
Home Dimension:
Rak'hell
Average lifespan:
1000-1500 years, reaches adult status by 21 years old.
Physical anatomy assessment and visual elements as documented by demon experts
On average stands an adult Rak'tumun stands between five feet six inches and six feet tall even without counting their fairly large feathered ears. The feathered ears are highly sensitive to sound, allowing them to hear a range of sound far beyond the comprehension of most other mortal creatures, and very sensitive to the touch.
A large fluffy tail allows them an extra level of balance as a counter weight against forward motion, an adaptation leftover from their days before ascension to intelligence we decided would be for the best benefit if this trait was to be kept. And after four thousand generations of selective breeding, their fur is silky and soft to the touch.
In coloration, their fur is always white across the belly and chest, and inner thighs, lined with black markings running through their fur. However they have a third color that can vary wildly depending on bloodline. This third color can be blue, red, white, green, purple or one of many other color varieties, and appears as stripes on the tail, lower legs, and outer and back portions of their fur. The face is usually black with white fur over nose and eye areas.
One trait we have failed time and again to breed out of them is the ability to grow claws on their hands and feet, these mortals seem to have that last ounce of defiance in them. So we have resorted to ripping their claws out while they are toddlers, providing much amusement from their wails of anguish for us on a daily basis.
But back on topic, their anatomy is generally pleasing to most humanoids, possessing only the five limbs. Two arms, two legs, and a tail.
Our breeding programs to enhance their memory and physical appearance have been quite the success and provided an unusual side benefit. The species is by default an induced ovulation, making breeding new ones a simple case of bringing the female to the highest levels of pleasure before the male does, and as a side benefit to our targeted breeding program they induce a six day estrus cycle in the female every forty two days. During this Estrus cycle the female is extremely sensitive to touch and stimulation. This allows us to regularly create new slaves for sale. Hybridizing the species with other species has proven fruitless, the children born are always of the non-Rak'tumun species, so we are forced to work with stock genetic traits within the species.
We have bred out of them the potential for great strength, and bred into them memory space allocation and sensory analysis. Their minds are fairly keen as a result, their memory perfect, and their senses top notch, but their bodies will always be weak and easily subdued by physical force. Rak'tumun are incapable of forgetting anything they observe over their long life span.
History and Review:
Oh bother do we really have to write this part? Yes its for complete comprehension of the species but... fine.
A few notes on the rak'tumun language as we remember it, what little we can. Rak means people. Tumun means slave beasts. Tihi means paradise, and hell means well... hell.
Lets start with how they where prior to our successful campaign in subjugating their home dimension. Back then it was called Rak'tihi. Their civilization had known a golden era of peace and prosperity, enlightenment if you will. And while they where not the most technologically advanced civilization, their magic and skill with the light was second to none.
But their magic eventually opened up a portal, this portal they created would be our opening and bring us to realize the potential their realm had. It was rich in minerals, irons and gold and even many mithril deposits could be found here. Silver was as common as copper elsewhere. So through this portal, the demon families invaded.
At first the invasion didn't go well for the demon families, we had but the one choke point into their world, and their paladins and priests of divine magic where able to keep us at bay. Until we captured one of their wizards, and through torture and interrogation discovered the method for anchoring more portals into that dimension. Eventually a full scale invasion happened, with millions of servants of the allied demon families pouring through dozens of portals in every city. The war was glorious, we still remember it as if it where yesterday... And now under our rule we call this dimension Rak'hell
Ah but we digress. The Rak as they called themselves fell in under fourty eight hours after that, and four thousand generations of Rak'tumun have lived and died since then. They live a long time these Rak'tumun, and we found after a while to make a decent recording devices. With the combine effort of many ageless demons, we have bred the race and trained them to be perfect little data recording devices, and with a bit of dark magic can even password protect their memory against torture.
In this day and age, they are a status symbol. A shelf of Rak'tumun keep as well as books, and take care of themselves, while retaining all the information presented to them even better then ink and paper. A demon who keeps one or two around to record all his or her secrets is a powerful demon with much resources at their disposal, enough so to travel to Rak'hell and pay a large wealthy sum for one.
