An Allied poster created for my World Ablaze WWII series.
I have always been intrigued by the “message art” of the Second World War. It was the precursor of today’s graphic advertising. Each of the combatant nations made serious efforts to convince and motivate its own people to their wartime tasks, but also project a national image to peoples beyond its borders.
The style of this particular poster was one that can be traced back to a WWI poster of around 1914-15 that featured British General Kitchener exhorting Englishmen to join the armed forces “For King and Country”. Apparently the poster was successful because it reappeared in Germany 20 years later carrying the face and message of a candidate for the office of chancellor of Germany.
This was a quick pencil sketch that was “inked” and “painted” in PhotoShop. I deliberately avoided a finished look so as to keep the psychological impact of a rough unpolished image.

Yes, I was thinking of "his" black and white election poster with only his face and his name on it. In the film that I saw of a pan of a Berlin street with campaign posters of the various candidates his stood out. Say what you will about where it all led, the National Socialists certainly embraced many modern ideas regarding advertising.
Thank you, Anbessa.
Thank you, Anbessa.
absolutely. Goebbels was a genius, albeit an evil one. without him and all the other helpers Hitler might have had trouble reaching his state of power.
but as it is, shit happened. *shrugs* we can only learn from it.
it's good to see you don't use such motives and styles without thinking about it, and reflecting it. thus, continue by all means.

I must admit to a life-long fascination of Hitler, his incredible rise to power and how he was able to convince people of vastly superior education then himself to follow his directions. That fascination has led me study books, films and the art of the Thrid Reich in search of an answer to the question, "How did it happen" and "Could it ever happen again". The answers that I have found are very disturbing. So through my "World Aflame" series I hope to allow its viewers to experience, in a harmless furry way, some of the feelings of belonging and pride that "the other side" felt. Perhaps then none of us will ever think of those people in the black and white documentary films of that period as being either evil or stupid, but people just like us. And if we come to believe that we are as vulnerable as they were to lies that make us feel good, then perhaps we will never again victims of it.
and I must admit that, back in that time and circumstances given, I probably would have flocked among them... until it was too late. probably tried to bomb him to hell or something... and failed like so many other assasins.
from today's viewpoint it's easy to say "they were stupid to follow him", but there were vastly different times. they weren't stupid, they were desperate.

Thank you, Anbessa, for putting your finger on the main reason why Germans and Italians believed in and followed their Fascist leaders – they were desperate. Desperate for a solution to widespread and deep joblessness. There were no state social relief programs in the years after the end of the First World War. Hunger and starvation were not things that a person read about in the daily newspaper. It was something that was happening in your neighborhood and often times to you and your family. On top of that, the entire life savings of families were being wiped out by uncontrolled inflation in just a few weeks, leaving them totally penniless. Where were they to turn? Even the elected governments seemed to be at a loss for solutions to these very real problems.
Then a few men, decorated ex-veterans, appeared offering solutions. The solutions they offered were unreasonable said the well-to-do politicians in their nice suits from inside their warm homes. But it was difficult for a father or mother to “remain patient” and reasonable when their children were cold, hungry and sick with no place to go. To them maybe it was time for radical solutions to the increasing problems. Any answer was better than misery without end.
Yes, Anbessa, I understand why the Germans and Italians of the 1920’s and 1930’s followed the Nazis and Mussolini. I know that in that same circumstances I would most likely have raised my right arm and enthusiastically shouted along with the thousands looking for solutions and a feeling of hope.
My goal in doing this series is to show and tell through my illustrations how they were (and perhaps we are) all susceptible to accepting answers that feel good today when those answers are merely steps to a terrible unseen future.

Thank you very much, Reikonova.
WWII is long since over. The issues that it was fought over are long since settled. In creating these posters I want to allow people today to feel the power of propaganda. If they do then perhaps it will answer for them the questions that I have asked of the people in those grainy black and white documentary films -- "How could those people have been convinced to believe what they did?"
Hopefully my posters propagandizing the issues of a make-believe war in a make-believe world of furries will allow the viewer to for the very briefest of moments understand how those people did believe what they did.

Thank you very much, Foxystallion. I too have studied "art with a message".
To be a good artist one has to understand how people beyond one's self will react to any particular image or sounds or words he or she puts before their audience. Whether it is pornography or political propaganda, knowledge of what causes which particular reaction in people is the tool used in both. It is a fascinating study.

Because my art project, World Aflame, deals with both sides of the world war, I have a few pictures of [i]the other side already completed that would fit in well with Leni's "Triumph of the Will". However, wanting to pursue the project in a more chronological fashion and also wanting to establish my project as something other than a glorification of Fascism, I will be publishing the project’s earlier years first.
So anything that she might recognize as being similar to the work she was hired to do will not be “published” until at least the latter part of this year or early next year depending on what time I am allowed.

You grasp my fear entirely. My only protection is to present a preponderance of images that clearly outweighs in number those that might be taken as glorifying those certain subjects. Four or five to one might do it I think. I still have a long ways to go before I can post a picture I have done of a wolven You-Know-Who giving one of his frenetic speeches.
especially if that hypersensitivity comes from people who have no clue what they're talking about. my own clue is a rather small one I have to admit, and I "Sit at the source" sotosay.
can you believe some germans believe the "Fractura" typeset is prohibited because the Nazis used it? and the "Sütterlin" handwriting was also used by them, still not forbidden. *sigh* so much to know, so little learned.

If I didn't know you, I would have thought that you were pulling my leg. If I understand you correctly, Fractura isn't actually banned in Germany. Nevertheless, when some people believe that "their" government has the power to ban a type style, I'd call that fascism...
Isn't it strange how that hypersensitivity doesn't apply to Communism? Hitler was responsible for 10-20 million deaths, including Jews, gays, gypsies, soldiers, and lots of innocent bystanders. Stalin killed about 40 million of his own citizens to collectivize agriculture and to consolidate his dictatorship. Mao killed about 40 to 60 million. Yet some people wear T shirts with pictures of Che Guevara, Lenin, or Mao and no one whispers a word of criticism...

seems like keeping up the status quo is easier than cut it off and restart, because that is going to hurt seriously. especially those with power and/or wealth, which of course seek to keep their sources springing.
during this crisis, our politicians come up with plans on helping the economy... plans they know full well will accomplish nothing but raise the state debts. for example, if you wreck a car older than nine years, and buy a new one, they'll give you €2500 on top of it. calling it environmental-friendly bonus or soemthing... now, people run and buy new cars. small cars. cars easier on gas. and since we build almost none of these cathegories, most of that money goes to foreign countries. even our small cars from Opel, Ford, VW are built somehwere outside germany... and this is supposed to help the economy? also, that fund is almost dried up by now.
it would be easier if the powers that be would cut into their own purses, but no, let someone else do the money-saving thing.
sorry for ranting, I'm a bit miffed because of the general hypocrisy and bigotry everywhere.

we would need a full party of government, including opposition, willing and able to fix it. but as long as people like Bush, and Helmut Kohl, are re-elected nothing will change.
and those who think about doing politics to one day change everything for good... will be desillusionized from fighting against windmills, or be corrupted altogether.
but we can still hope.

Obama is only cosmetic change. Under Bush II, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson gave tens of billions of our tax dollars to his old buddies at his old bank, Goldman Sachs. Under Obama, Larry Summers gives tens of billions of our tax dollars to his old buddies at his old bank, Goldman Sachs. With both administrations, it is a multitrillion dollar heist that takes money from those who earned it and transfers it to those with the most political power.
Where the hell is the damn reset button?
Where the hell is the damn reset button?
oh yes. our own Lehamn bos brand bank, named Hypo Real Estate (it seems anything real with them are the bottomless holes where they put their money) comes around every other day with new holes to stuff. after getting suretyship for billions of euros they came up with even deeper holes... bills that weren't part of the official business as it turns out. if it were me I'd declare such things illegal, pull the surety and leave them on the streets to die... because with a business attitude like that there will be no end to it.
and it's only a matter of time until a journalist discovers that there are politicians and/or their buddies involved with HRE.

I follow political economics very closely, both for the US and the rest of the world. Unfortunately, you are correct about the wasteful ways of the politicians - they are almost all addicted to the most powerfully addictive substance known to science : OPM - Other People's Money.
Almost everything being done by the politicians in the US, the Euro zone, and Japan will further harm the economy rather than help.
China is mostly acting in its own rational self interest; it has started converting its $2 trillion USD and huge Euro denominated accounts of paper (US Treasury Bonds, etc.) into almost anything tangible. This includes raw materials, mines, refineries, oil fields, coal mines - and most recently $600,000,000 USD of Jaguars and Rolls Royces. Why these cars? Luxury car prices are currently depressed and the value per ton is high so shipping them to China will cost much less per dollar of value than shipping Fords or Chevys. It isn't that these cars are good investments - it is that the Chinese economists are not Keynesian idiots, and realize that almost anything tangible will soon be worth more than any USD or Euro denominated paper. They are desperate to exchange that paper for tangible goods before it loses most or all of its value. They are right. If that reminds you of the hyperinflation that destroyed the Weimar Republic, you are correct.
Very serious inflation lies ahead as China liquidates their paper dollar and Euro assets and that money is returned to and spent in the US and Euro zones. Government bond prices are the current bubble, and when it bursts, interest rates will skyrocket by a factor of several times. Suddenly, all that government debt will cost far more in interest than the governments have funds to pay. The US has already started resorting to the printing press. Inflation is a tax on everyone who has saved, and a transfer of wealth to every overspending debtor - which the left uses to buy votes and "campaign donations."
The economic authorities believe that they can limit inflation to a "moderate" amount - just enough to reduce the value of their debt to a more manageable amount. That is exactly what the Reichsbank of the Weimar Republic thought back in the 1920s about their WWI reparations debt. I have a 1,000 Mark banknote that just nine months later was overprinted as a billion Mark banknote. The middle class and the German economy was destroyed from within, and then came a dramatic orator named Hitler who had big plans for fixing everything wrong with Germany. I very much fear that history is about to repeat itself...

only that there won't be another Hitler around. oh, there will be someone promising us anything for nothing, but I doubt there will be WW3. if there will be one, it will be the last for sure.
our middle class has long since been destroyed. politicians ceased to care about them, and the low folks, and those who do, are denied enough power to change anything, it seems. and even then there would be too many obstacles to be overcome to make anything seriously happen...
a lot of them stem from the past. istead of saving governmental money for bad times everybody only saw the tax income, the economical rise, which had to grind to an halt one day or another. the first example of how it would feel we had in early 70's. Chauncellor Helmut Schmidt tried the very same tricks to help the economy up which are used now. He made no difference with them, the economy helped itself, forcibly. all we received from these programs were huge state debts.
and today? all we will have are debts. the refund system for newly purchased cars has nearly come to it's end, providing just enough funds for 600.000 buyers. and we have not even finished february... all the while Mercedes asks, no, demands, a similar program for trucks. "some 10% of the end price should do the trick", they say. it's obvious that Dieter Zetsche has no inclination to pay for it...
and while all these programs are founded on new debts, gov'ment desperately tries to keep an hold on new debts. for, if you want to partake in the euro plans you have to keep your state debt rate under 3%, or you will have to pay a monetary fine. (how this is supposed to help a struggling country's economy is beyond me. also, germany and france are the only countries paying into that large monetary vault which is the EU funds). is it just me, or are there huge discrepancies?
when I think back to before the euro, and reckon out my current income into Deutschmark, it would have been an income a good deal above average. nowadays? I couldn't live on my own from it, paying rent, food, energy. I would have to sell my car and ignore anything looking like cons or comissions. (okay, granted, I could live without it, just mentioning it). I would have to partially rely on social welfare... prices are through the roof, payable rented flats are rare (it pays more to build up an office complex and let it stand empty, for you can reduce tax with it. rented flats can cause huge problems, which in my opinion are a part of modern-day society) and employers expect you to travel across the country to work their crappily payed jobs which only make you sick.
no, we need to have it break down completely, so we can reset and rebuild. it will hurt like nothing before, but as it seems people learn the best through pain.

oh, we do have our share of it for sure. all those who laugh and look down onto the US should grab their own noses...
oh, side note time. that they reprinted money bills in weimar republic was almost common. I have a bill which started out as RM1000,- then got printed over with RM10.000,-, and in the end they gave it an overprint with one million... in red!

at a german furry forum some people suddenly came up with avatars wearing stylized wehrmacht uniforms - without the Hakenkreuz - and since it seemed to happen unreflected, a lot of drama ensued. in fact, the Hakenkreuz IS prohibited to show, except for artistic reasons, which means if you put up a museum collection to display you are allowed to show photos and propaganda material to go with it. but, wearing the sign outside of that context can get you a lot of trouble, and rightfully so, it seems... even anti-fascistic organisations using it in a "roadsign manner" with the cross x-ed out and such, can get into a lot of well-meaning trouble. although there is an unwritten order to tolerate that.
until a new broom, aka state attourney, wants to clean up and goes out of his way to crush a little shop of anti-fascists distributing "stop fascism" t-shirts and other signs of political attitude... and almost was sucessful.
now, in the middle of aforementioned drama someone rose the notion that the typeset used in these avatars was also prohibited to use because the Nazis used it... from someone who ought to know better. :P
which is, in fact, bullshit. you may even wear a wehrmacht uninform unharmed as long as there are no signs of nazi organisations or military units visible. we are not THAT brick-headed...
german modelers who venture out to other european contests and exhibitions with their accurate models (sans hakenkreuz) of planes, ships, panzers, whatever, find out that the citizens of the former allieds including italy
1) have still no idea what good it's supposed to do to prohibit Hitler's hakenkreuz and the original signs which it was derived from including the sun wheels which were popular all over european ancient cultures and
2) have no quarrels scratching off a lot of points if that superb model of a Me-109 lacks that dreaded hakenkreuz.
I have noticed that too; communists seem to have something of a permittance to do their deeds. I'm not sure, but people like Lenin, maybe even Trotzki, Che, and Gorbatchov actually had meant good for the people. but monsters like Stalin (and his successors), Mao, and the Red Khmer had the power.
here in germany the right-wing goons set up demonstrations here and there. and the left-wing goons lose no time to announce they'll show up with thrice the attendands, and will bash in heads... if you look closely they are as dangerous and anarchic as the rights. but no one seems to notice... extremes aren't good, no matter if right or left. our left party aims for power, too, and they have a lot of good ideas how to do things right. but with their current leader one must fear they'll try to erect another study in communism, oblivious to the fact that the other ones went down the drain, either. again, no hint of criticism.
yes, it's strange. people actively refuse to learn from the past.

Excellent art Lionus! I teach a Critical thinking class about this sort of thing and how to avoid letting it influence you. The propaganda of WWII was simple, but extremely effective. In retrospect, I suppose it teaches us a lot about human nature - especially the darker side of human nature and what people are willing to do (or, at least, tolerate) in order to fit in.
If you do happen to do art for
foxy212 I would hope you will also keep in mind my humble request regarding seeing more of a certain character of yours *blushes*

Thanks very much Indy. Like issues of good and evil, propaganda is entirely relative -- it all depends on which side you are on. Producing effective propaganda depends very much on understanding both human nature and the subjective context of one's audience, whether the propagandist accepts the validity of that context or not.
And no, I have not forgotten your request regarding that 'certain character of mine'. How could I? He won't let me.

Nice pic to come back from a hiatus with; a lot of assertive energy there. Lionus IS the state! And he would be a god too, if enough people actually believed in them anymore. LOL
I can't help thinking something along the lines of my favorite poster would be well received: http://images.chron.com/blogs/txpot.....n_the_guns.jpg Just a suggestion.
Liabach Kittens are Soviet so Germans can watch them too (it only works if you subscribe to Orwell's fascism though). The song is deeper than it looks; concerning itself with the eroticism of power, something we all crave and deny. Old, but still edgy IMO.

And you might enjoy this documentary, if you have not already: Like Century Of The Self; it is concerned with the machinations behind the propaganda, and how it is used as a weapon against the people as much as the enemy even after the fact. I don't think it was ever shown on US television, and only had the briefest British airing; most likely because Jews might be indirectly offended by certain truths about WWII. But it is directly offensive to ongoing NWO policy and techniques as well.

There are a number of Allied and Axis posters that I will be using for reference for other points that I want to make in my art project. The navies of both sides certainly deserve recognition for the courage and bravery they exhibited out on the thousands of square miles of empty sea.
Orwell came after the period of time that I am dealing with and after reading his "1984" I would have a difficult time finding subject matter to turn into art from that world other than a couple of monumental Big Brother posters balanced against images of neurotic povery. A gray world certainly.
No, I have not seen Century of the Self. I'm afraid that from what I can glean from your reference to it, the American media might feel too self-conscous about screening it on pubic television.
"Lionus IS the State." That has a nice ring to it.

I mentioned the poster as a joke because of it's subtle, unintentional (?) eroticism. And the reference to Orwell is regarding his definition of fascism: http://orwell.ru/library/articles/A...../english/efasc , which is quite true in a moral sense; though I prefer to use Mussolini's "corporatism" for practical purposes. Sorry for being obscure Lionus. *deep obsequious bow*
You keep right on saying what you think Stonebear, obscure or otherwise.
If my little historical posters and pictures can make folks remember that the Freedom of Speech was just one of the things defended and preserved by Victory in the Second World War, then I will have suceeded in my reason for doing them.

I'm eager to see this series develop. And pleased that it's sparked such a rich and varied discussion on propaganda, advertising, and the impact it has on a people. Whatever your beliefs of the United States' previous administration, it must be said that during the Bush (W) years, many people here were honestly fearful of what was to come. And propaganda and media - though now much more subtle than the WWII era messages - were just as effective now as they were then. To be sure, even within our own political arena, that kind of "message art" was used by both sides afterwards in the most recent election, and many have said that our current President ran a far more effective message campaign than most.
But I recently came across a series of British war posters that I thought were fantastic. You can see them in reproduction here http://blog.thompsonryan.com/wp-con...../keep-calm.jpg (original source, Keep Calm Gallery), but what struck me is the way that they've managed to capture both an poignant message and an entire cultural sensitivity with just typography. The red one has a great back story, too...

Thanks very much for the URL, Growltiger. You've helped me add to my reference collection of WWII posters. If you or anyone else is interested, you can do a image search of "WWII posters" on Google and see quite a spread of them.
WWII was not only a war of bullets and bombs, but also one of ideas and ideologies. Illustrators and graphic artists on both sides of the front wonderfully expressed those ideas that are easily understood even today. Ironically, the pride with which the Axis powers visually boasted of their "New Order" worked against them when shown to Allied audiences as being a foretaste of what the free peoples of the world could expect if they lost the war.
While there may be much to what you say about the recent American political scene, I am going to stick to the world of 1918-1945 in my series and while on Fur Affinity. Like historians we can all pretty much agree on Who Did What during the Second World War, how it all ended, and pretty much what it meant without being divided by our personal current day political views.

Thanks, Raf. But remember that propaganda is something that is neutral. For example, this "poster" was modeled after an English one (circa 1942). I merely substituted Winston Churchill's face with that of a lionmorph.
There are lots of "propaganda" posters today urging people to stop smoking, get more exercise, be nice to each other, take time out to pray and to cut down on unhealthy foods. Not really the stuff of evil government manipulation I would think.

No offense taken, Raf.
Every piece of visual "propaganda", whether for good or for some unspoken evil, works on the same dynamic. Hit the person with an instantly recognizable image that provokes a strong emotional reaction (physcial attraction, physical repulsion, fear, hate, obedience, pride, envy, a desire to belong) and the simple message that is attached to the image will more easy slip by the viewer's critical judgement. It is like a mental jujitsu move.
The same dynamic is used by advertisers, movie-makers and anyone who wants to advance an idea.
As human beings we mostly react the same way to the same things. That is why, among other things, that the "good" people in a motion picture are shown as being physically attractive while the "bad people" are shown as unattrative in some way. We are drawn to the attractive and repelled by what is unattractive. That is why is is so important to THINK about WHY we are reacting to an image or words in a certain way and not so much fixate on why someone has put that image in front of us.

Thank you very much for provoking a fascinating and wide ranging discussion of history! Your lionmorph poster has certainly encouraged a lot of thinking. It is good to see that there are still a few like you who understand the importance of history as a guide to a (hopefully) less catastrophic future. There is so much history that I fear will be more or less repeated because so few have learned from the horrendous mistakes of the past.
Perhaps the most important thing to be learned from a study of History is how easily pivotal events could have been changed by just a handful of people. No, not important people, but average people.
For example, if Titanic's lookouts had received the binoculars that they were supposed to have had when she sailed in April of 1912, the iceberg might have been spotted in good time to avoid it and the liner's voyage would have been uneventful. If the archduke’s driver hadn't become lost in the streets of Sarayevo in 1914 and not stopped the car directly in front of the assassin in order to back up, the ignition point of the First World War might not have flashed. If Lieutenant Tyler, who was on duty on December 7th, 1941, had forwarded the warning called in by the primitive radar station operators of a "large number of planes approaching from the northwest" the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor might have failed badly and the war in the Pacific might have been markedly shortened. The atomic bomb might have been dropped on Germany instead of Japan. If Colonel Count von Staffenberg had been able to include the second block of explosive in his briefcase then the German dictator would certainly have been killed and the war might have ended nine months sooner. The Soviets would not have entered Germany, over-run Poland, and the Iron Curtain would have been much further to the east.
History is preface. What happened yesterday, or a hundred years ago, explains why today is the way it is. Not understanding History leaves a person prey to someone who supposedly “knows better” which is the sad reason followers allow themselves to be led while they still have a chance to say “no” and change the course of History.

Wow! Thank you very much for this information!! You literally sent chills down my spine! I had not known those pivotal details regarding the Titanic, the archduke, and the second block of explosives. Why the involuntary shiver? Because I had never thought of how great an effect such small changes would have made. You have vividly demonstrated that apparently minor actions by ordinary people have changed history. The world is even stranger than I had realized.
I must respectfully differ with you regarding the atomic bomb, though. Germany surrendered before the Trinity test of July 16, 1945. If the war in Europe had still been underway in August of that year, I suspect that Berlin would have been vaporized. Here is a little piece of history:

As I understand it, Roosevelt considered using the atomic bomb, or bombs, on Germany when they came on-line in 45. The surprise Ardennes Offensive suggested a resurgent Germany deploying fresh divisions in a battle-hardened army in the West against the relatively unchallenged Allied sweep across France and the LowLands. However as soon as the weather cleared in Belgium the Allied commanders on the ground recovered quickly and the all-or-nothing last gasp nature of the German offensive became obvious. The idea of using the bomb(s) in Europe was quietly dropped.
If the attack on Pearl Harbor had only been half as successful as it was due to the advance warning getting through, the nature of the Pacific War would have changed drastically.
First of all the attack’s partial failure might have convinced the military strategists on both sides that aircraft carriers should be relegated to secondary scouting/reconnaissance missions while the main fleets maneuvered for a decisive Jutland.
Secondly, a partial American fleet-in-being would have put a crimp in the Japanese war planners’ plans for pushing Japan’s defense ring eastward to the Aleutians and Midway. On the other hand, for the Americans to advance westward against the Japanese inner defensive ring on the other side of the Pacific it would have required more of a commitment of men and material to that theatre. Much more then the actual shoe-string defensive war that Roosevelt committed the US forces to till Germany was defeated. Even a couple more divisions assigned to the Pacific would have affected the number of troops that could be deployed in Europe and the scale and success of operations there.
So yes, the efforts or failures of one single individual can result in historical effects. Or as Lenin supposedly said, ‘History turns on small hinges.’

Indeed, if more of th US Pacific fleet had survived, the Japanese would have been vulnerable to hit and run raids on oil terminals and interdiction of their oil tankers.
‘History turns on small hinges.’ What you have told me has given me a lot of food for thought. As a scientist, I am used to running an experiment many times and using statistics to root the cause and effect data out from the noise. You have shown me the ineradicable importance of that noise, noise emitted by nominally unimportant individuals...

With enough practice I think anyone can pick up a favorite animal likeness and become quite good at drawing it. I've been doing lions for years and years. It's the blending the animal with the human features and injecting recognizable emotions into them that's the trick.
There's a number of well-known WWII posters that I might go back to in my series with Rosie being a possible choice. The posters and pictures that show the industrial effort that was behind the war machines certainly deserves to be displayed. The war wasn't just about armies, navies and airplanes.
Winter's finally ending and I am coming back to life. Yay!!!

Glad You're coming back to life! Yeah Making them look expressive is tricky ^_^ But as my pawpaw (grandfather) Would say "You done Purdy!" ^__^ Can't wait to see what you come up with bud ^_^ I'm on pins and needles...I should probably move now LOL ...sorry bad jokes

You are right, Leo. There was that US recruiting poster during WWI. Sadly, when we all found ourselves in another world war, the pose was used by the British, and according to some of our German furs, their side as well.
It is a very effective pose; the Leader, taking time out of his busy job of saving the nation, to point his finger at us to remind us to do our duty.
