The current drug him under and out, and soon he lost track of the changes. He didn’t see or feel the tail fully form, or the last of his skin replaced by scales. After what seemed like an eternity, the current released him, and he opened his eyes.
Water filtered easily through his gills, and he exhaled. He looked over himself and smiled, the change was complete. The sea opened up before him, a world full of secrets (maybe why he transformed in the first place) waited for him to explore.
