"Thy window I have broken,
And so deep do I lament.
To throw a stone, thy gaze to catch
Was my soul's heartfelt intent.
Thy verdant greens bore no such fruit,
So in despair I threw my lamp.
Yet firstly did I douse the flame,
So scorn me not, thou tramp."
Modern translation: “Sorry about your sliding-glass door. I wanted to get your attention without waking your parents, so I thought I’d toss a pebble, you know, like in every movie *ever.* But your lawns are immaculate — my compliments to your groundskeepers, BTW — and I didn’t want to traipse all the way back to the road for a piece of gravel. So I threw my flashlight. I had no idea your folks were too cheap to spring for tempered glass. Hey, don't give me that look: it’s an LED, so it’s not like it could start a fire or anything. Sheesh. So, you coming or not?" ;)
