Second of two scenery illustrations that I had to do, this one being the inside of the chosen theme.

Following the theme chosen (Tower of Babel), I also had to do an inside scenery illustration. Unlike the first one, where I struggled to decide whether I wanted to represent the Tower in its entirety or use it as an entity in the piece, I knew what I wanted for the indoors one from the start.
A scene inside the sewers/water tunnels at the base of the tower, where the river stream passes through. While the base of the Tower is well-structured, the tunnels still show signs of construction. But the focus of the piece is the mood of mystery I wanted to set. A dimly lit shed in the back, not cleanly/drily accessible; a torch-wielding figure, moving across the stream, coveredin a long red robe; and odd markings on a simple bridge.
Between both pieces, I definitely enjoyed doing this one more, even though I generally struggle more with artificial environments, and an indoors environment generally implies ALL artifical. Like I was told, it's really the mood that captivates, which is probably why I picked this idea among all of the sketches I did.
