I wonder what the *tweaking* part was, particularly for Zbrush. I'm playing with the program now, and planned on making a model exclusively on there... now I wonder if it would be better to make it in a more traditional program... then transfer and tweak it... somehow. Hmmn. *ponders*
I depends on the outcome that you want, if it needs to be rigged, easily surfaced, etc. For what I have done in the past I've tweaked Poser/Daz3d models because they come ready made, with textures, morph targets etc and I can work from there, I don't have basic modelling skills. But for doing the sort of amazingly detailed sculptures you see on Zbrush sites you're better off sketching out the design, modelling a basic shape for it in a more traditional program then transfering it into zbrush to add extra details. I've not really done that before.
*grin* actually, that helps quite a bit. Right now I don't need it animated via IKA skeleton or anything just yet, and in fact, am not animating it at all at first, but knowing what to do on and off the program definitely helps.
Admittedly, I haven't modeled in years myself, bending my focus towards learning to draw simple 2D better, so I'll need to shake off rust. That said, thanks for the advice: I'm starting to see how to order the tasks ahead better now....
