Welcome to Frappuchinos! Now Serving: Apprehension
Venti stalked around the waiting room, a stern grimace contorting his face. Singa thought the jackal was simply going to break down the reception desk with a big paw after the nurse told him only family could be allowed to see Art for now. Fortunately for the hospital, Venti remained calm, and asked politely how long he would have to wait.
"They said an hour, Singa."
Singa's ears perked up, tail twitching. It was the first time Venti had said anything during that time. "I know, Venti."
"Well, guess what? It's been an hour and ten minutes." Venti looked down at the cheetah, ears tilted back against the ceiling. He glanced over at the doors leading into the hospital proper. "What's taking them so long?"
Singa closed his eyes, trying to remain calm. All he wanted was to ask Venti out on a date, but now he wondered if he'd lost another chance to be with the jackal. Venti's frustration and concern felt too much for this lion to be more than just a coworker. "Calm down, Venti," he said gently, standing up and placing a hand on Venti's forearm.
"If they don't come out here in five minutes, I'm going to make someone--"
"Venti. I said calm down. Now."
The jackal looked down at Singa, and for a moment the cheetah saw unbridled anger directed at him. "Did you just boss me around like some kind of kid?"
"I did, because you're acting like a spoiled brat who was told he couldn't have a cookie before dinner." Singa didn't back down as Venti narrowed his eyes, though he almost did. "Look, the officer said Art was all right, didn't he? Perhaps they're taking care of people who are more seriously hurt, Venti. The world will not stop for one lion."
Venti stared hard at the cheetah, about to say something, then dropped his eyes and looked away. "I'm sorry for talking to you like that, Singa." He drew the cheetah into a gentle hug. "I just...I've just been seeing red ever since Art got hurt."
"Maybe you shouldn't wear those sunglasses so much, yes?"
Venti surprised himself by chuckling. "Maybe I shouldn't, yeah."
