Sometimes, a job is just a job. You can't just flip a switch and expect things to go smoothly. Sometimes you have to recalibrate things to make sure that the beauty sucker of your design doesn't turn both a young bear and your witch employer inside-out or into giant radioactive piles of goo.
The ssstruggle...
I personally think one of the most gratifying moments in video game character development -at least for me - was seeing Klungo, just a background character you never officially see outside of cutscenes, become an important character in Banjo-Tooie, and later one of Banjo's biggest allies in Nuts and Bolts. I'm not sure if that was planned, but I always dug the big guy in Banjo-Kazooie and I remember practically geeking out as a little kid seeing that the first boss of Tooie was the fabled Klungo, rock-pusher, switch-puller, only seen during game overs or at the end of the game.
One of my entries for the Banjo-Partie zine being hosted by Blank Party: http://stephaniezuppo.storenvy.com/.....5-banjo-partie
One of the settings that I never see get any fanart is Klungo's lab and the beauty sucker machines from Banjo-Kazooie, let alone with Tooty in them, and since I'm my own worst critic and kind of dislike all my previous pictures of Klungo (I just feel I had yet to really "nail" the character) I decided why not.
Turns out I'm not too good at drawing these things. But hey, the zine needed some Klungo in it (aka one of those characters I bizarrely liked for YEARS) and who else but me to provide it.
