So. Ive been a huge fan and player of Stellaris sense it came out, using a race I made using the bits on the game, using it as a headcannon race called the Avarrians, thank you random in game name generator for the name. So i had to commission some artwork of them from the wonderful Starvingartmajor and she did a amazing job. This here is Plume of Green, hes a Captain in the Avarrian Commonwealth Army. Hes trained in the use of Power armor and his trait would be Defender, Skilled at defensive operations. Theres alot of world building, most of it based off the first game I played with them.
Symphosis: The Avarrians are an avian/reptlian race hailing from the outer rim of the galaxy from a jungle world called Avarris. They are a spiritual and intelligent race that developed quickly after their industrial age started, but still maintaining a balance with their world. Always looking up at the heavens with a sense of curiosity they seek to make their destiny among the stars, but are willing to defend their established homes if need be. They are currently in a strong alliance with the Antarian Solar Republic, a Military Republic of Humans who originate from a old earth empire colony a few hyperlane jumps from Avarris. (Ingame traits are communal, intelligent and sedentary, Ethos is Spiritual, militarist, individualist)
Homeworld: Avarris is a large earth sized moon that orbits around a blue methane gas giant Al'karathara, which roughly translates to "Home of the goddess", around a F-class star. while F class stars tend to have high UV radiation and glow in the yellow/white range the magnetic field of the gas giant protect their world allowing life to thrive. The planet has thick jungles and shallow seas, clearings being few and far between, thus shaping Avarrian society, who cities are built on forested mountains that rise above the lowlands. Due to some species of dangerous megafauna, their cities tend to be very well fortified even in the modern age.
Biology: The Avarrians are a quad eyed Avian/reptilian race that evolved in the jungles of Avarris. while never evolving along the lines of flight, they have slender bodies that would be the equivalent of athletic humans. the Avarrians plumage acted as a form of communication and helped attracted mates. This reflects in their personal names, who apon hatching the parents name them after their most striking feature such as their eyes, wings, or feathers, and the colors of said features, Such as with Plume of Green, whose name comes from the green tips of his plumage. The eyes of the Avarians are unique in that the main pair in the front are like human eyes, but with higher vision acuity, with superb binocular vision. Their secondary eyes though are unique in that they see into the upper energy ranges, able to see ultraviolet and even auras when they focus through them. They have a normal 4 chambered heart, a primary set of lungs and a smaller secondary set, and a omnivorous digestive system, with a taste for what could be termed as fish and berries. their bones tend to be hollow, but heal very fast if they are injured. They are hot weathered creatures as such they are comfortable in temperatures over 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with an internal regulated temperature of about 101-102. their muscles are compact but dense, giving them a surprising strength in hand to hand, with sharp tipped claws on leathery fingertips, Their beak and lower legs below the knee also lacking feathers but having a more leathery scaled hide. Their beak have no teeth in them, but have rough grinding patches inside the beak in the back, while the edge and front of the beak are sharp. Their lifespan can reach up to 150-175 Human earth years, but advances in modern medicine have expanded that to 225. while their lyarinx is different than a humans, they are able to sound out words like a parrot, and can be very fluent in the Antarian's language, which is comprised of a mix of English and Finnish, with other cultural words distilled in. They are a egg laying race, and as such they do not have mammalian features such as breasts, with females tending to be more drab but having longer plumage crests and larger eyes, with more slender beaks and frames compared to the males.
Society: The Avarrians are a very intricate society, with their beliefs in their god and goddess, whose names are Feathers of stone for the god, who they believe's domain is to planets and moons, and wings of the void for the goddess whose domains are the stars and the void, being a source of strength and guidance for their society, They belive there is a balance to the universe and their shamans try to keep that balance by being healers, guides, and in some cases even scientists and explorers, listening to the "spirits" of the worlds they visit. this is also reflecting in their government being a Theocratic republic. Their elected leaders and officials also including a high priest or priestess as an advisor, with elections being held every 5 years. their social circles revolve around large Clans of family units, known as rook, with some clans holding sway over large portions of cities or colonies, such as the Iron Beak clan, a clan whose main interests are mining and construction, consisting of over 300-500 rooks in the capital city alone, and holding near total control of Avarris' Star-ports and orbital construction yards. A Rook tends to be a family unity of a mated pair and whatever offspring they may have, and sometimes extended family relatives. In recent years, it has been rooks that have adopted Antarian children or even intermarried with Antarians due to the migration treaties that allows Antarians to immigrate to the Avarrian commonwealth and vice versa. (uses Mammalian style cities in game)
Military: Due to the Jungle nature of the world they originated on, and the need to protect themselves from inter-clan warfare and the more dangerous animals of their world, they developed a strong martial abilities and tactics. the Military of the Avarrians is rather unique in that in terms of the army, they rely on Infantry and air support/drone warfare. Their infantry is divided between light and mobile infantry, who have plated armor and moderate shielding, with hand held rifle like pulse rifles and hunter killer drones, with Heavy infantry units in heavy powered armor (think like BoS t-60 power-armor, but more refined and such), using them as a heavy support role with higher damaging weapons such as heavy beam cannons and missile tech that they learned from the Antarians. with the lander's acting as mobile airships that provide overhead support. they rely on skimmer bikes using technology found from a drifting derelict for recon and fast attack, They have a natural talent for close quarters urban combat due to the nature of the forests back home that really prevented the development of heavy weapon platforms such as the tanks favored by the Antarians. With the advent of FTL, their navy, which had been more of a support platform for the armies grew rapidly and adapted well to becoming the dominate military force for the Commonwealth, suing durasteel armor, shields, and energy weapons, they have shown that they can hold the line in the recent threats they have faced, having just started fielding cruiser weight ships. due to their history with the Antarians and joint developments, Antarian and Avarrian ship designs are very similar in terms of asthetics. (uses mammalian ship designs)
Recent history: With the discovery of the hyperspace lanes and the development of the hyperspace drives, The Avarrians took their first steps into the void. within the first 40 years they had developed colony ships and colonized 4 worlds, which, along with their homeworld, formed the core of their stellar empire along the outer rim of their arm of the galaxy. In these early days they formed mining colonies and energy refineries on planets that were rich in said resources, and developed decent technologies with deflectors, nano-alloys, and UV lasers giving their initial corvette sized ships good capabilities of void born entities such as the Crystalline entities. it was during this time they first ran into the Antarians, who were just relearning FTL and space flight from the sunken hulk of a earth empire battleship found in the ocean on their planet. Coming from a world named Antara, They were descended from a colony that managed to survive the collapse of the old earth empire 3 centuries before. Believing they are the last vestiges of the human race, they formed a strong military republic, where service in the military or in service roles such as health care and research gave citizenship, which basicly allowed them to have the rite to vote and hold government positions, they Antarians were expanding as well when the first Avarrian ships accidentally jumped into a recently established mining system. The initial contact ended up with both sides making mistakes and a firefight broke out. a series of bloody skirmishes occurred before translations and diplomatic lines were established and the conflict sorted out. realizing it was better to be friends rather than enemies, the 2 empires banded together, establishing embassies and eventually an alliance of mutual defense. This played into their favor when they came into contact with the Hahn-mur clans. A fungoid Divine monarchy that had an established empire and advanced tech compared to the Avarrians and Antarians, that believed it was their right to rule over all other races they encountered. this lead to a brutal series of wars, including the current one that is stalemated at the Avaarian sector of Krastana, an autonomous region whos capital is located on the planet Trast, a series of 10 jumps from the core world of Kalkanasa.

Ethos -a Xenophile, Fanatic Militarist Military Dictatorship. though I think I might try something else in there. I do want ot keep military ,so my ships cost less and etc; its my first time playing, so I don't have everything figured out just yet.

I think i need to reevaluate my strategy. The alliance i am in is war hungry. I kniw I am a fantatic militarist, but i am such a minority in the galaxy. I have hardly an army, and my navy isn't strong enough at all. I am in no shape to fight a war of any kind.
Maybe i shoukd have appealed to small xenophobe part, because i don't want to fight anyone becaee of two other allies throwing insults at one kf the ugliest aliens i have ever seen

Neat! I actually have an avian species that uses that same portrait. Except mine are from an ocean planet and are a pacifist fanatic spiritualist species ruled by a divine mandate government. Wanted to do a sort of spiritualist nation that lived in harmony with the nature.
Btw, I've heard that they are coming out soon (not sure when though) where you can choose a sort of species endgame for your empire: there three of them.
I'm really hoping that they let us do espionage and spying like in Master of Orion. Plus they are thinking about adding stuff so your ships look different from other empires (pretty much that means that not all mammalian ships will look alike which is also)!
Oh and one more thing before I shut up: you really inspired me to do something for one of the species I created. Thank you for the inspiration!
