hehehe, i'm a real sucker for castles and ruins in general :P history is awesome! ok i really liked this shot as the sky is almost completely grey apart from the patch of blue and i love the entrance to the castle itself, is a shame that they've closed the interior off from the public but ah well :P

a barbican is like an extra defensive structure in front of the main gate. it could be just a small extra gate or a big enclosure.
