All characters besides Markus and Boris belongs to Don Bluth in original.
There were many things about these last few days that Bartok had never imagined would happen to him.
From having the grand royalty of a kingdom noticing his act, to having said royalty later select him to go on a very honorary set of missions (which also involved very great dangers!), finding a new friend and companion for his journey while on his first mission.
And probably the most unbelievable of all these things had to be that he actually managed to succeed in the first mission, and return with the item to the queen completely unharmed!
And now he was immediately risking his (and now also Piloff’s) neck by heading out for finding the second of the three items needed for the queen to create the potion to unlock her true “inner beauty”.
Last time it was a rose, and this time it was something called the “Outo Feather” that would be found in the “Caverns of Norby” that was their daring quest.
As they where now wandering towards there Piloff (Who hadn’t been a part of this until just recently) had been deciding to ask Bartok about how all of this even started for him, and this is now the moment when he has told her about everything said so far.
“Wow. So this must have been some really hectic few days for you, hasn’t it?” Piloff asked as the adventures duo was heading towards their newest destination, to which Bartok responded by first sighing and then saying, “It has been a lot more problematic then when having to be forced to write out a new permission note for performing, when only having about an hour before said performance is about to begin.”
"So any idea why getting this feather has been so hard?" Piloff asked as she tried to imagine something as hostel as the snowy mountains that the key element she had been near.
"Not really." Bartok said, and since hearing an answer that only took up 2 words to say wasn't good enough for someone as curious as Piloff she asked Bartok again if there wasn't anything else he had been heard about it.
"Ludmilla just told me that every knight that came back from trying to get it had a completely different explanation about what was the reason to them failing with their mission." Bartok said before starting to get more interested himself in what he was saying. "In fact, the way she described the things that some of the knights had said almost makes it sound like this item is capable of doing everything!"
And upon realising that he started to back to that old more cowardly side of himself again as he said, "And if that's true then I'm not so sure if we will be able to handle it."
This time Piloff decided to take on the leader role for a moment as she grabbed a hold on Bartok and said directly to him, "We have each other's support now, Barty. We just have to try and BELIEVE in that we can do it, and then we will make it!" in a very supported way.
While Bartok still wasn't all to sure if he liked being called a nicknames by Piloff he did appreciate the glowing spirit she showed, and it did make him too feel ready once again to go onto this next adventure.
As they where just walking along peacefully a sudden "Hey! You!" cause them (Or at least Bartok.) to jump up in shock and seek comfort in the other for protection.
Turns out the one saying that was nothing more then a small (If somewhat pudgy) white male rabbit, who had a very bushy moustache, seemed to be a bit of a senior, and wasn't much more taller then Bartok and Piloff.
There was a bit of a silent moment before Bartok carefully asked, "Can we help you with something?"
"Did you two by any chance talk about something regarding the Queen by any chance?" The rabbit asked curiously.
"Oh Yes. Bartok here has several times told me that what's on stake is for us two to find first this "Outo Feather", and then some third so far unspoken item, that once put together with the "Fuar Rose" will bring this Queen Ludmilla the chance to unlock her "inner beauty". Since she is the Queen and all it is not like we are in a position to say no or anything." Piloff gladly explained.
Upon hearing this the Rabbit simply said "Just what I thought.", before standing up on his hind legs and seeming ready to make a speech of his own.
"My name is Boris, and for as long as I can remember I and my whole family have sworn to always be ready to do anything in our powers to help serve the mighty Queen of our proud lands! If by helping in finding and delivering these items that you speak about to her is a way to help my kingdom some way, then you can count me in on your journey!" The Rabbit said proudly, and ended his speech by making a salute to Bartok and Piloff.
"I don't know if you can call what we are doing "Helping the kingdom", but if you want to follow with us then..." Bartok said casually before suddenly Boris grabbed one of his hands hard, shook it even harder, and said "Then it is settled then! I will from now on be a part of this exclusive Royal treasure finding group!"
He then shouted out "Let's do this now for the Queen!" before starting to run off towards the "Caverns of Norby" with Bartok still stuck in his grip!
"Hey! Wait for me guys!" Piloff shouted as she tossed out her tail end and wrapped it around the waist of Bartok, before she too was getting dragged along with the Boris Express.
Reaching the Caverns of Norby Boris was more then ready to enter and retrieve the item, while Bartok and Piloff on the other hand seemed to first need to take a few moments to caught their breaths. (Both of them also being very surprised over how fast a rabbit at his age could still run.)
For being a bit of an elder and fatter rabbit he seemed to have almost more overstock on energy then even Piloff at times! (Seems like he was one heck of a passionate royalist.)
He was eagerly looking around toward the cave entrance in which the feather in question was resting in, and slowly his previously so great enthusiasm turned into a lot more annoyance and anger as he shouted out "In just which one of these blasted caves is it?!", over the fact that there was more then hundreds of different entrances into the mountains that one could enter if they so pleased.
"It is going to take days, maybe even weeks, before we will managed to find the one that holds the feather!" Boris said in complete defeat, almost sounding ready to give up and walk home again.
Seeing that their newfound friend was about to run away Bartok and Piloff quickly stopped him to show a little something they had with them for this very specific journey. (And adding in that it was from the Queen herself was more then enough to have Boris being all ears now.)
It was a map that had been made after the searching's from the several 100s of knights that had been on this very same journey as they where now, and it showed a very detailed and marked out image of all the caves in the surrounding area, and even which ones had been marked as "dead ends", as they haven't been the ones containing the item.
Bartok had not more then unrolled the scroll before the map was snatched out of his hands by Boris, who started to look at all kinds of angles and ways over it before comparing it with his surroundings.
"Yes, Oh Yes, OH YES!" He said more and more enthusiastic. "This is just what we need to succeed with our mission!"
"I never really doubted that the Queen wouldn't have provided us with a map like this before going on our quest. After all, she is the Queen of this very kingdom. A brilliant and beautiful lady that always is one step ahead of her opponents! Honestly I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was so that the Queen personally had been exploring every single cave all be herself before handcrafting this fine map for us to follow later." Boris said in his constant praising of the Queen Ludmilla, all while he was running all over the fields to find the one cave marked as the right one, and all while Bartok and Piloff just watched on as he went on his merry ways for them.
"Does that guy ever know when to slow down?" Piloff asked Bartok. (Who had to double check to be sure it had actually been PILOFF that had been asking that very question!)
"Oh hoy, pals! I think I have found it!" Boris's voice suddenly said!
Upon catching up to him all three of the group could agree that by comparing the map over the caves and the one they where currently facing, that this was indeed the one that was holding the "Outo Feather" inside.
The entrance to the cave was very big, and that made it very easy for the three of them to look inside and see that almost up at the roof of the cave (About 20 feet above ground level.) levitating inside of a small bubble of energy was the "Outo Feather"!
"This is it!" Boris said before starting to run head first inside the cave shouting, "For the Queen!"
"Hey! Wait for me!" Piloff shouted, as she also took off quickly. (Not wanting to get outdone by that rabbit in fast travelling again.)
"Hey, both of you! Not so fast!" Bartok said before he ended up tripping over and landing on his face. "Just wait for me..."
Then in the next second Bartok heard the shouts of his two friends, and he rushed over in to try and help them. (And in what state he found them in nearly made him faint.)
Boris. The one that was always ready to run blindly faster into any given situation, had now been inflated outwards like a balloon, and couldn't reach his feet into the ground any longer!
And Piloff, who always was the stretchy and crazy bendy one, had now been turned into stone! (With only her eyes and mouth being the only parts that could still partly move.)
Looking first at the state of his companions and then at the feather Bartok very quickly figured out that it had to be the item causing these weird effects, and that maybe taking it out from it's protecting field would make then turn back to normal again.
Bartok started to try and flap his wings to get up flying...but felt that he was going nowhere!
Looking at his two friends starring at him Bartok looked down to see that he was now a super fatty, with a belly big as a soccer ball, butt wider then a baguette, and wings that looked almost like drum sticks on a plucked chicken, ready for eating!
Bartok was more then a little startled by his sudden fatness, but tried to stay calm as he first looked at the feather and then at the cave entrance from where they came.
"I think I get it now." Bartok said as he rushed over to the inflated Boris, and gave him a light push to make him start tumbling backwards out of the cave. He then grabbed a hold of the stoned Piloff, and dragged her out of the cave with him.
Once out they all felt how their bodies was starting to go back into their normal state again.
"What?...How did you fix us back to normal, great Bartok one?" Boris asked, to which also Piloff had to add "Yes, how did you know to do what you did do?"
"Quite simple actually. I remember Ludmilla saying that none of the knights trying to get the feather ever faced the same kind of problem. So I just assumed that the feather has some kind of "Randomness Power" to it, and changes the effects it has on depending who enters the cave and tries to steal it." Bartok explained. (And felt very proud over for once being the one with all the answers.)
"So that's why I got turned into a parade float, miss cute-face here became a stone-face, and you looked like you had just been having way to many pig feast buffets!" Boris said, and couldn't help but start to roll with laughter's over just how silly Bartok had looked like at a complete obese state.
"Indeed. The feather thinks that if it changes the rules depending on who it is it will never get caught. But we now know how it will affect all three of us, and that gives me an idea on how to turn our problems into our advantage!" Bartok said, as he had just come up with an idea on how to get the item.
"Ready?" Bartok asked Piloff, who in returned bite into her own tail and mumbled, "Reay!"
Bartok the Bat then sent his strechy worm friend rolling into the cave, and just as they had planned Piloff once again got her whole ring shaped body turned into solid stone and stopped rolling once inside.
"So now it's my turn?" Boris asked eager, and when Bartok said "yes" he took off shouting "For the Queen!" as the Rabbit jumped perfectly into the stone ring of Piloff...and then got his body bloated up in a second! (Making his stuck firmly inside the ring.)
"So now it is just my part left." Bartok said before he took a deep breath and started entering the cave a second time.
Once inside the small bat could feel how all those extra pounds was growing onto him, and he couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed having his friend look at him as he was starting to try and climb the cliff walls of the cave.
Being about as fat and heavy as a full grown pig when you are just a small bat wasn't easy as fatted paws had a hard time getting a grip, and he felt like his fat ass and gut would make him fall at any given second.
Still he climbed feet after feet until he felt that he was high enough now. Looking down he could see his friends still be stone and inflated, and upon seeing that they where ready for him the fat bat decided to let go of his grip completely and fall!
When falling down his wings was completely useless as all Bartok really could do was to try and aim and not hit Boris directly in the face, as he just hoped this crazy idea would actually work!
Upon impact Bartok's fat frame sank really deep into the inflated fur of Boris, but thanks to Piloff's hard shape holding it all together the pressed together fur got to send back the energy it had been given, and almost like huge fleshy cannon ball Bartok came flying up into the air and on his way towards the "Outo Feather"!
Getting closer and closer Bartok was afraid that he might not get through that weird field that was holding the feather, and made himself ready for a total face plant into it instead!
But luck would have it that the field's only purpose was just to keep the feather suspended in the air, and once Bartok made contact with it he just flied straight through it. (With the feather in his fatted hands!)
Bartok's time to celebrate was cut short however when he ended up slamming into the cave wall, and then started falling! He started to try and flap his over stuffed chicken wings again, and this time felt that it was much more easier.
Looking down on himself he realised that once he took the feather out of the magic field it made all the curses go away, and he was back with his normally small bat body!
Upon landing on the ground he was happy to see that even Boris and Piloff was back to normal again, and they too was just as happy to see Bartok being alright.
"Well I'll be. Great job kid." Boris said and gave Bartok a real clap on the shoulder, before Piloff coiled herself around them both shouting, "You did it Bartok, You did it!" overfilled with joy.
"Let's get this thing back to Ludmilla now." Bartok said as he got himself out of the coils and once again upon hearing the name of the Queen, Boris got very patriotic for the female royalty as he shouted "To the Queen!" before taking off from the other two.
Left behind Bartok asked Piloff if they should tell him that THEY where still the ones with the Feather, to which Piloff said that Boris was probably "A good couple of miles away from us now.", so trying to call for him would be pretty pointless.
"And Bartok?" Piloff said which caused the Bat to ask back, "Yes?"
"It's good that we got this Feather and all, but I kinda wished I could have got a chance to hug you while you where still all chunky and plump." Piloff said and poked Bartok's now normal sized small belly. (Making both him and her blush a little bit about this little curiously of Piloff.)
Things started off a bit awkward returning to the castle this time as first they had to bail out Boris from getting dragged off by some guard (because he couldn't wait for the others and tried to sneak in), and upon entering the throne room both Bartok and Piloff could see that the poor bunny barley could keep himself still when finally seeing his bellowed Queen in real life.
"I see that you have also managed to find the second item now. I am very impressed by you Bartok." Ludmilla said very proudly.
"Oh thanks. But in all honesty I wouldn't have been able to do without my two trusty companions." Bartok said, and by doing a simple counting Ludmilla saw that there was once again one more character added to the bunch.
"And may I ask who this little one happens to be?" She asked Boris, who seemed to have been preparing for getting this question his entire life as he stood up with his back straight and tall, placed his right paw over his forehead in a honour, and then said "I am Boris Vernyy, and I am the 22nd generation of my family that has sworn to show nothing but the most honourable and trustworthy treatment towards the Queen of this mighty kingdom, and to do everything that stands in our powers to give her exactly what she wishes for!"
Both Bartok and Piloff was very impressed by Boris passion field speech and so was Ludmilla, who as a joke turned over to her trusty Markus and said, "You better watch out Markus, as now there seems to be both a bat and a bunny that might be trying to take your job.", to which her close second in command seemed to take real offence too, as he said "Excuse me, but I know that I too would have been able to do exactly what this little bat has been doing so far!"
Boris couldn't really keep his big mouth shut when he saw the life guard & informer yelling at his Queen and asked sarcastically, "Oh yeah? Then why haven't you done that already?"
Markus in response to this got so angry that he just stormed out of the room without saying another word, and Ludmilla wasn't very happy with how her so called "most trustworthy" of subjects had dared to be cocky towards the guy that she had known for next of all her life.
Boris himself realised first now that maybe he should have just tried to stay away from this fight, and he could only give a very pathetic apologising smile without risking to say anything else stupid.
Ludmilla just gave him a real death glare for a few seconds before saying, "You are very lucky that you happen to be part of Bartok's company and a real need for the team, or else I would have ordered the cooks at the castle to make sure to serve me rabbit stew later!"
Boris gulped loudly in fear and Bartok tried to make this bad situation end by asking if they could have their final mission from the Queen instead.
"Very well then." Ludmilla said as she brought out a new map, that she exchanged for the Feather from Bartok.
"The final item for you to retrieve is know as the "Tayna Grail", and can be found in the deeps of the "Smert' Swamps". But be warned that this is the most dangerous of all the challenges so far, as no one of all the knights sent to retrieve it has ever been seen again!" She said before letting them all three wander off.
Once again having heard the levels of danger associating with the item Bartok wasn't feeling very confident about their chances of making it out alive, but Piloff and Boris on the other hand seemed more then ready to take it on fully!
(Boris causer he wanted to redeem himself so badly after how he ended up looking bad in front of his beloved Queen, and Piloff cause she never really knew what the concept of danger really was. )
Unknowingly to any of them however was that they where being watched around a corner by none other then Markus, who was thinking to himself that "If someone is going to deliver the final piece of the puzzle to give my Queen her true beauty, then that one is going to be ME!"

Interesting challenge, and with an Aesop that some things you just can't do alone and demand that you have assistance, as this second challenge has demonstrated.
But it seems that Bartok and Co. have some competition for the last item, and from one with a very...personal...reason for doing so.
And then there's Fat Bartok, how did I know you'd put that in somewhere?
Still, one challenge to go, then, who knows? I mean other than yourself.

Awesome. On another note, when you do get around to the "Dragon" part, do you intend to use this as the cover art for the chapter? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19278931/
I mean it is yours after all.
