What can I say, I like making cute little monster things. I sketched a handful directly to loosely inspired by fungus, because everybody knows by now I am that weird guy who likes to study fungi.
Some notes:
- The one on the top left is based on a beaked puffball. I kinda think of it as one of those inexplicably levitating fairy-like things you see in RPGs.
- The top middle one is based on a bleeding tooth fungus and it looks kind of annoyed, probably because it has to be stuck in the middle of all these other weird things. Also, I can only imagine that secondary metabolites leaking out of your head and forming weird blood-red droplets gets kind of obnoxious after a while.
- Top right: hermit crab BUT WITH FUNGUS. Because polypores are pretty sturdy.
- I dunno what the thing on the bottom left is, I figure it is some weird pixie bug thing which has turkey tail or some similar bracket fungus sticking out that lets it catch breezes and float around. Also it looks happy. Come on, tell me it would not be an adorable thing to have sitting on your shoulder keeping mosquitoes away from your neck.
- The bottom right thing is based on white nose syndrome. I felt kinda bad sketching it because white nose syndrome is a very serious problem for bats in the U.S. right now which has been spreading rapidly over the last ten years. If you like bats, please take a moment to learn about it ( http://www.whitenosesyndrome.org ) and if you can, throw some money at people who can help save our bats (because they are actually more important to keeping those darn mosquitoes in check than little fungus critters sitting on your shoulder). </psa>
Expect to see more of these at some point. I mean, more monster designs. Maybe these specifically, too, I dunno yet.
