I don't know if I should tell the story or if Oni should tell it! o.o
*thinks* Oni told everyone in her journal.. so I'll tell it simply here. We are now engaged. =} I asked her to marry me on a cruise, and this picture is a present from that engagement.

xD Pfft, fine.
It was after a formal dinner. Everyone had to dress in their finest, and the rest of our party didn't bring any or didn't feel like going that day. So I wore one of my old prom dresses (my gray metallic one!) and Bakel wore a tuxedo and we went together alone! It was a little looooooooonely because no one else was there so we finished pretty early and then went out onto one of the decks in the back of the ship.
Everything was really dark. And further, the sky and the sea were the exact same color so you couldn't tell which was which, and it was like you were just floating along in nothing. We went to a railing and talked for a bit.
Then Bakel said he wanted to ask me a question and he knelt to the ground. My brain knew what was happening and promptly fled; I got dizzy and in desperation to fill that void of silence between when he knelt and when he pulled out the ring, I said 'Did you fall?'
He gave me a weird look, and I think laughed at me and ignored me, and then asked me to marry him.
And I gave him a dumb look and asked 'Are you serious?'
I could tell he was trying not to laugh as he nodded solemnly.
That's all it took for me; I started doing the classic 'cry while you hold your face' look that so many newly affianced women go for. Then he got up and we hugged and I said yes and got to put on my gorgeous ring and we hugged and I cried more and he laughed at me for being such a little goof.
(For those seriously interested in the ring, it's set in 14k white gold, round cut, .6c diamond... colorless, exceptional cut, SI1 clarity!) (aka awesomesauce ring)
So I had fun tracking around his family and showing them my ring. Then I realized that on the boat I couldn't call my family so I was in agony for part of the night! DDDD=

As sweet an engagement picture as one could ask! -Snickers- I suppose this will be what I show people - online, anyways - when they ask for one, hm? x}
I love the play of light in the piece, as well as so much of the smaller things. The way Oni's mouth is slightly open, for example... I adore it! Her eye, as well, is very feminine in a way I've never been able to portray. xD And Bakel's chestplates look amazingly metallic, they're gorgeous. And I never thought I'd say that about scales.
Definitely a background picture! You did an awesome job, Kia. I can't thank you enough for this. x} I'm not likely to get any sort of engagement party, far away from home and friends as I am, but this makes up for it, really. =>
