I rehome them as pets yes. I keep 20 of my own and I have been breeding silkies for the colors you cannot readily get at hatcheries and feed stores. I have found the colors I have been producing to be in fairly high demand.
I won't be continuing to heavily breed chickens in the future like I have this spring. The only reason I have had so many (many many) chicks this year is I do not like to deny a hen babies the first time she goes broody... and all but 2 of my hens only just came of breeding age this year, so I have had a lot of new moms!!! (the other hens are 9 and 14 years old, well past baby making lol) I know I could just give them less eggs to have less chicks but the hatch rate varies, of 12 eggs I could get just one chick or all 12 could hatch, or none at all, it is a huge gamble! This little batch here came from 21 eggs sat on by 2 hens in the same nest, and at 11 chicks that was a 50% hatch and just 5 and 6 chicks each for them.
