Thought they're working together... and who knows... I've read of MiG-15 shooting down early F-4 Phantoms... But well, it still stands little chance...

A phantom? possible. A Hornet? No Fugging chance. It's hypothetical, like if either decided they didn't like each other.

There are always possibilities... remember the F-117 that got shot down over Serbia... it's supposed to be an almost invulnerable plane... and I guess that underestimation is one of the reasons of the shooting down of planes that have superiority over others... and I think that it mostly depends on the capabilities of the pilot as a fighter...

The Nighthawk is not invunerable. It's nearly invisible on radar. If you get a laser lock (which I assume happened) then it becomes a target. And, yes, Pilot skill makes for most of a dogfight, but the Mig21 is still outclasses in maneuverability and armarment by the FA-18.

That's true... but I think you could say the same about a MiG-15 vs an F-4...
Has there been an actual case of MiG-21 vs F-18 combat?

Not officially. By the time the 18 was developed and sent to the field the Cold War was long over. If anything, they'd have faced MiG 29s.

Yeah, but if I'm not wrong, there have been encounters between F-16 and MiG-21 over Irak; in one of them the last were shot down by long range missiles and stood no chance to fight back... I have the video somewhere...
