Since the first reports of the Pulse shooting in Florida hit mainstream media at 0300 this morning, I have seen the majority of the people on my Facebook feed using the tragic event as a springboard for their anti-gun arguments or the justification of their distrust for Islam. Everyone has their opinion of why this happened and what should be done about it. I do too.
That being said, I would really love to see everyone cease firing their political arguments at each other and, in a proper show of respect and mourning, allow for a moment of silence (on FB and in our hearts).
Let's bow our heads, clasp our hands, send our prayers and sincerest vibes to the deceased and their loved ones. Let's give these poor people a chance to cope with their devastating new realities before we trivialize what has happened with our petty political insults and memes. At least for one night.

This is beautiful, honey. And thank you for your statement. I couldn't agree more. Everyone immediately wants to twist this into a personal affirmation of their political beliefs, whether they're right or not, when what we should be doing is allowing the people affected by this horrible tragedy, both directly and indirectly, mourn their loss. This isn't a time to be fighting. This is a time to grieve. I think it's time to stop fighting each other over these trifles and set an example for future generations. They need to know that hate can only beget more hate. Peace and love in the face of war and hatred is the only answer.
I realised something that made me stop and think for a minute when I heard about the Pulse shooting.
Imagine how all the officers and emergency responders felt, having to listen to the phones of the deceased and wounded ringing off the hook from worried loved ones trying to reach them, hoping they'll answer and say they're okay.
And all the families and friends at home, calling over and over only to receive no answer.
I believe people who use tragedies like this to further their political stances without even waiting for the blood to dry are almost as bad as the killers themselves. It really takes some heartless thinking to do that.
