Last night, I got a crazy strong urge to animate, so I decided to get some good learning/practice in with a walk cycle of Kio. It's still rough (gonna go in an retime the arms primarily), so if people have input I'm all ears!
Half the frames were done with pencil'n'paper, the other half (and lots of tweaks) were done in TVPaint.
EDIT: Ugh, looks like the swf version is super choppy. Here's an mov that exported more cleanly: http://kendavi.com/animation/kio%20.....nal%20h264.mov

her left arm is not following up at the same rate her right arm is, but I'm sure you already know that c: sorta wish the overlapping on her head could be more dramatic, and the tail looks like it could use a couple more frames, otherwise this is looking pretty darn amazing c:
Yes! I will definitely keep that in mind when I do my revisions on the arms :)
So you're suggesting adding more bounce to her head, the hair, or both? And as for the tail.. I think it looks okay in the non swf version (lemme know if you disagree!). If it still looks bad there, I think I'd be better off redrawing the tail rather than adding in frames (which would probably mean putting the walk on 1s).

more bounces to her head and her hair would probably have a more exaggerated overlapping, yeah redrawing the tail might be a better way to solve that -v-, being in animation class sort of gave me a habit of shouting "THROW SOME MORE FRAMES IN THERE! D8<" whenever I see things looking a bit choppy XD And I think the thing with the arm is that the keyframe spacing in the arm swinging arch is too even, try putting more spaces in frames between the swing and pack them tighter as it gets near the top of its arch c:
Yeah, the arms really bug me :| I was trying to go for an effect of her really pumping her arms on the upswing, but didn't really go about it the right way. I think I figured out a way that will work a lot better, so we'll see!
And thanks! I'm glad the tail turned out well :) I was really intimidated by it, because I thought I'd do it completely wrong!

One good way of going about it is to do the main body first and do all the overlap later. Try to draw the path of action for your hands archs and work off that. That always helps me when doing walks. Walks are totally the hardest thing to animate XD. Great job on the legs to i gotta say. I can really see the anatomy working underneath. Keep up the great work!
Yeah! I usually start out an animation by drawing my path of action, calculating how much time I need for the action, and then making notches with ease-in/out for my timing. It's very handy! Aww, and thanks, I'm glad you think the legs look good!
And yes, walks are hard, but they're -such- good practice!

Oh man yah notches on the ease in and out are super helpful. Keep up the wonderful work. I know when I finish an animation I feel like I have learned a zillion new things for drawing static images. We will have to get together sometime this semester and you could show me some snazzy stuff with that TV paint! I miss ya!
You have no idea how much I love this simply for being, at least in part, an old school pencil animation. Flash and other forms of digital animation are cool and all, but they just don't have the same kind of feel that pencil on paper, 2-D animation has. Absolutely love it.
The music was pretty good. They had the rolling stones in there which made my ears perk up whilst my brother was watching it. The film didn't grab my attention though.
Then again I was obviously browsing FA at the start so maybe there was one killer hook at the beginning. Dunno.

The legs look perfect. Those are what I usually have the most trouble with. I feel like her tail should have a bit more bounce to match her gait though. The arms seem to have a bit too much bounce, but the flow that you've got going between each frame on them is great. This is looking really good so far! Keep it up!
Oh man I remember taking a brief animation class in college and I've forgotten a few key things.
I think the steps are a tad to large, like she's walking over something. And maybe loosing up the elbows would help.
Other than that though it's a good animation and is really cute.

That looks really awsome! Im working on my own walk cycle as we speak right now. And if ya really want to see some stuff that can help is this book called "The animatiors survival kit". And it fun to look at! Ya can even see it on the website as well ^.^ Anyway, great walk!
I don't like how shape tweens look, or (most) Flash animation for the matter, so I've never done anything that way....soooo.. I don't think I can judge from personal experience, but I find it hard to believe that letting Flash morph shapes for you could be harder than drawing.
This is Cool. Its like she is marching to some non-existent tune!
If you feel so inclined to read some criticism, have at this...
The leg movements seem exaggerated, like she is wearing massive boots or she is treading through water.
I think its the step in more so then the step out. Mind you, her size would affect this, wouldn't?
On the other hand, I'm no visual artist, so what would I know? XD
besides that and the arms (which you mentioned already), Its Aces, can't wait to see if this gets finished!
