Fanart for ~booker, author of the mildly TF-themed webcomic "Skin Deep".
This is her main character, Michelle Jocasta. A short bio:
Species: Grecian Sphinx (latent)
Age: 19 (a college freshman)
Abilities: Acute sense of vision and hearing, soaring flight
Magical abilities: Yes
Dislikes: Heights; being turned into a freaky "cat-bird-monster" thing (and wherever her pants went in the process)
Michelle wasn't born this way. For 19 years of her life she was an everyday student with not all that much to say about herself. At least, until some random stranger dropped an antique medallion and she picked it up. Next thing she knew, she woke up as a mythological monster -- and not just any monster, but one that even your 'ordinary' monsters (gryphons, etc.) thought were extinct! Apparently sphinx runs in her family bloodline, and as fate has it, her new college roommate (and circle of friends) turn out to be in a similar ordeal themselves, college students by day, creatures of myth otherwise. Sure, she didn't ask for the tail, the four feet, her pair of white wings or the various magical abilities that came packaged with it, but neither did they, and at least she can change back into her human shape more or less at will ... at least after they teach her how.
9x12", ink and Prismacolors. Three hours.
