Just a routine visit of the Inquisition to check on one of their criminals. *Update* Now the original picture, not just a scan from a copy.
--Story--
Hot air stroke Inquisitor Alexander Bauer's exposed skin. It wasn't painful, but still an annoyance. And it got even worse the deeper he walked into the mountain. His job isn't a easy one, but someone have to do it to keep everything in order in the kingdoms of the four families. And that also means routine visits of criminals under house arrest.
Alexander pointed the flashlight on his pistol forward. The little LED light was enough to let him at least see the path so many others before him followed. Now it was his turn.
The path ended at a giant hole, which offered him a deep look into the flaming inferno of the active volcano. He looked around, trying to find the one he was looking for.
"Bessonth, Son of Shalerth!" He called.
Only a few seconds later, a head emerged from the lave, followed by the rest of the dragons body. It was a sight to be behold. The dragon was big enough to swallow him whole in one bite. But Alexander wasn't worried. He know, if the dragon got any funny ideas, the Inquisition would blow the mountain and the dragon within up, without a second thought.
They are not known to do things halfhearted.
Bessonth was now looking at him, fangs flashing in his mouth. "WHO DARES TO DISTRUB MY SLUMBER?"
Alexander looked at him with a casual face. For some reason is this the way how most dragons greet people in their homes.
"That would be me. Alexander Bauer, Inquisition of the Kingdome."
Bessonth lowered his head towards the human. "Inquisitor Bauer? You must be new then."
"Pretty much, yeah."
He then fixed his sight at Alexander. "So, what can I do for you, young Inquisitor?"
"It is just the routine check in. I am sure you know the drill," Alexander said without even to falter under the dragons glare.
"Of course I do." Bessonth said, impressed by the young Inquisitors steadfastness.
"Alright then." Alexander said while he took out his smart device. "Okay, so. From what I can see, you are under house arrest for... cattle stealing?"
"I was hungry," Bessonth said with a calm tone.
"104 cows, sheep and other?" Alexander asked with an high brow.
"Very hungry."
"Fair enough." Alexander read through the files. "Sentence to three years of house arrest. Only three month and two days left, allowed to hunt the wild live in a restricted area."
"Can't live just from stone and ash now, can I?"
"I wouldn't either," Alexander agreed and tipped some new data his SD. "Alright, so far so good. No complaints from farmers, the woods are still intact. What about your tracker."
Bessonth sighed. "It is still there, where your colleagues put it."
"I need to take a look at it," Alexander insisted.
Bessonth grumbled but turned his head to the left to let Alexander see the little tracker behind his horn. Alexander used his SD to scan the tracker. After it he put the SD back in his jacked.
"Alright, everything looks in order. Not long anymore, and you will be free to leave."
"It's about time. This place gets pretty boring after three years, and the wildlife gets smarter too. If it wasn't for the hunters, I wouldn't find much anymore," Bessonth said with distress.
"Don't worry, that is why we got them in the first place. Anyway, that pretty much was it. Thank you for your cooperation." Alexander was about to leave but Bessonth's voice made him stop.
"Not even staying for a little chat, Inquisitor Bauer?"
"Wasn't planning to," replied Alexander, wondering if that usual happens with him and other Inquisitors.
"It gets lonely here," Bessonth told him with a bored tone. "You people from the Inquisition are pretty much my only regular conservation partners, and source of new stories about the world."
Alexander tilted his head a bit. "Alright. Why not. Got some time left anyway."
Bessonth's lips formed a smile. "Well then, what can you tell me about the world? Anything from interest happen lately?"
Alexander thought for a while. He had some good stories, but he doesn't want to spill them all out just yet.
"Not much. We had a small incident with an cult in the northern region. The leader had some kind of power to control people's mind. Something with a birdie in the eye, or so. Wanted to bring 'world peace', as in, everyone is obeying him."
"I guess you took care of it?"
"Bullet to the head," Alexander said as if is the natural thing to do.
"Seems rather drastic," wondered Bessonth.
Alexander shrugged with his shoulders. "He didn't want to give up, and tried to control me. I was just quicker."
Bessonth laughed. "Good to hear that the Inquisition is still with all its heart at work like thousand years ago."
"That's what we do. But now I have really to go." Alexander gave him a short two finger salute before he walked away. "Have a good day, Bessonth. Don't stir up trouble."
"Until we meet again, young Inquisitor. May the gods of fire and wind watch over you," Bessonth said, watching Alexander leave.
"What a nice young man. Not many around these days." He then looked up through the open volcano.
"Hmm, why not getting a little snack before sleeping." He opened his wings and with a few quick thrusts he took off into the late evening sky.
Only three month and two days left and then he can finally leave this place for good. The things he can finally do again then.
