Hey everyone! I have been asked every now and then how exactly i paint, or if i could explain some aspects of my paintings and how i achieved them So i asked Utunu if he'd be nice enough to let me use his painting for a walkthrough and he agreed!
I'm always hesitant to do tutorials because i know just how much i don't know, how much i learn every day and so on, so i feel i'm not anywhere near qualified enough to give tutorials on anatomy or colour theory or the like. So what i instead did is to try and explain how i think and what my goals are at certain points during a painting.
There are two packs available, a free one and a paid one. I won't be making any money off of either of these, and all the proceeds will go directly to the Painted Dog Conservation ( www.painteddog.org ). And to make it even more awesome,
Utunu will match the amount donated! And to make it even more awesomomomomer the company who he works for will match it as well! So every 1$ that this pack will bring in will actually result in 4$ that lands at the charity! That's what i call efficiency!
The Free pack can be found here : https://gum.co/SthdS
It includes:
- Uncommented Step-by-step guide of my Fugue painting from the very first sketches to the Final painting (11 steps)
- Tutorial on how I paint Fur
The paid pack costs 4€ and can be found here : https://gum.co/hCoo
It includes:
- A commentated walkthrough of my Fugue painting from the very first sketches to the Final painting (with a few additional intermediate steps)
- PSD file (resized to 3k on the long side) of the Fugue Painting
- Uncommented Step-by-step guide of my Fugue painting from the very first sketches to the Final painting (11 steps)
- Tutorial on how I paint Fur

Haha, yeah, usually i merge them together regularly (basically each of the folders would be one merge), though i made a point to keep them seperated all the way because of putting it into the tutorial pack.Had to actually split the file in two at some point because it became too much to handle for my PC and then merge them at the end again. I'm glad it helped you!
And of course a big big thank you! It really is appreciated! ^..^

Hey, also wanted to leave a huge "thank you" for this walkthrough. I bought the full pack and I find it really worth the money, having the explanations to the pictures really adds a lot to learn from it and add to one's own workflow. Can only recommend buying this. The book tips in there are also interesting, can only recommend to take a look at these as well.
Also nice to know that the money goes into supporting a good cause to help these beautiful animals survive!

Thank you for this!
I'm reluctant to ask but what brushes do you use? I typically stick to a few and rarely expand my list because I don't know how to make good use of them. I'd be incredibly greatful if you could provide a list or even pack your current list (Saving Brushes)! I'll pay double for the pack! :P It'd be nice to try to reproduce some of the tutorial with the comfort of knowing there's an even playing ground in terms of brushes.
I just want to again say thank you for doing things like this -- you're still my most admired artist in terms of quality of work and attitude. There's something that sucks about feeling directionless in terms of art development and things like this really do help significantly. Heck, the advice and input you gave me a while ago (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/174.....#cid:102345996) was such a help. I just want to thank you for being who you are and I hope you never lose your passion for art.

I couldn't even upload the brushes i uses for that picture if i wanted to since photoshop messed up somewhere along the way and i just had to start with a completely fresh setup. But that is generally my approach to brushes anyway, i rotate through them depending on what i like doing at that moment in time, or sometimes i just accidentally delete a brush since alt is the modifier for both the colourpicker and deleting a brush.... so every now and then i'll have brainlapses and end up with a brush less . So ,yeah, just go with whatever brushes you feel comfortable with, givem them a while so that you get a feel for them and then decide if you want to keep them or look for different ones. :) Since if i upload my brushes today in like 3-4 months they might be completely different ones.
So , the brushes really aren't important, which is why you probably didn't even notice that the brushes i used were more or less entirely different from then to now. Focus on stuff like lighting, anatomy, composition and the basics like that, that'll end up defining the look of your painting way more than any brushes will. I'm glad i was able to help with my messages back then though! Nice to hear that it had a positive effect!

Oh blimey that sounds like a pain.. I think my main issue in that regard is I struggle to find which brushes are appropriate for when. I've always loved the textures in your work and I just feel like that wouldn't be doable without certain brushes, if that makes sense!
You're truly an inspiration to me, so I can't help wanting to be more like ya! :P

Yeah kinda was, honestly setting up photoshop in and of itself was more annoying. There are a lot of settings you fiddle around with once during the initial week of use where you find out how you like it and then never touch it again, or shortcuts you changed etc . So just trying to get all these small quality-of-life settings correct again was the most annoying bit.
As for the texture . You should be able to find plenty of textured brushes on google, just pick whichever look cool to you, try around a little and see which ones work best for you! :) It's a very individual thing , so after a while you'll just end up getting a feel for which ones work best for the way you draw. It's kinda like even something as simple as picking out pencils. Different brands feel different and then you got the different hardnesses too. Sometimes you just end up buying a set to try and none of them really feel nice to you while other people swear by them. Same with brushes, just download a few and over time you'll end up with a few that you go back to often.
And always a pleasure to help!
