Been thinking about it and I think these two may have accidentally turned THEMSELVES into mares. Mad science is a common profession amongst mice and rats.
Also while Sylvia is the one that ACTS smart, she's actually kinda dumb. Meanwhile Sylvie acts really dumb, but is actually super smart. This, in a roundabout way, makes sense. Each one has half of their old brain and half new brain. Sylvia probably has her old logical side of the brain, but back when they were one vixen she wasn't all THAT smart. Meanwhile, Sylvie would have a whole new mouse brain for her logical side (and by my interpretation I see mice as one of the smarter animals).
Not that it matters here. They both get kinda dim when they turn into horses. Horses are known for their athleticism and loyalty, not their smarts. That's donkeys and mules.
