So okay....interesting story. This past May, I did a animal rescue attempt and came up with 2 kittens.
Now, before I go more in depth of this story, I will tell you that for the past 3 years, there's been a family of strays that live under a few poorly kept up houses and they are indeed feral for the most part. The family itself contains over 20 individuals and the neighbors are more than sick of them, and so is the park that I live at, and it will only be a matter of time before they become too sick of these cats and hire someone to take them and from there, who knows what their fate is??? Most likely The Big Sleep for them! This I don't wish on these cats! Especially if it's the neighbor's fault for letting their cats outside and letting them breed willie nillie!! Now because of their irresponsibility, there's cats everywhere and now there's a problem!! This situation wouldn't of happened if people kept their cats indoors just AAAAUUUUGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! *tears feathers out of head* FILTHY HUMANS!!!!
Okay, rant aside.....I took note that another batch of kittens were born this Spring. Over the span of winter, I've been slowly gaining trust with these cats to which I would visit them and feed them. I managed to get a few to even take from my hand, but the adults are still wary. Anyway, Another day of feeding them and I noticed 4 black kittens. Now, the last thing this place needs, is another generation. There's enough cats already and though I love cats, they honestly really are a issue, as they threaten our native birds, mammals, etc. However, I DO NOT condone euthanizing these cats either! If I could, I would capture them all, tame them, and find them homes, but unfortunately, my house is full of animals already....and I got no other place or separate facility to do this either, plus money is very tight here, so we could not afford it either. Okay, now back on the subject.......I saw these black kittens and figured that taking them, taming them and finding homes for them would be easy, since they're kittens and they're young, so getting them used to people contact would be easy as pie. Plus, the less cats out there breeding the better. So that task was said and done. Unfortunately..I was only able to capture 2 out of the 4 kittens, because by the time I came back for the last 2....the place where all the cats would be was absolutely devoid of life. Not a single cat in sight. Sad, but at least 2 were saved.
CAPTURE STORY!
Okay, now the cat you see here is the first one I caught. It's a boy kitten and he was about 6 weeks old when I got em and I'll tell you what, catching him was no walk in the park. All cloaked in a thick, long-sleeved jacket, gloves and a towel, I was armed and protected! (in 80 degree heat....yay. :T ) and I went to their usual hiding spot that I took the time to observe from afar before I went through with my mission...(which was a lawn mower with a tarp over it....yikes) Lifted the tarp and the first little fuzzy face i saw, I dove in and grabbed em with my gloves and the towel and I'll tell you what.....I NEVER EVER in a million years, knew a kitten this little could scream so loudly!!! O_O I mean.....yeah...he thought I was a predator and naturally, any animal would make a loud, distressed noise if they feel like they were fighting for their life, but wow! That scream echoed! ECHOED!! he sure had a pair of lungs on him! Anyway, his capture was a success, obviously, and Once I wrapped him in the towel, he calmed down and curled up of course, because he was scared. Finally, I carried him through a antarage of curious children and brought him home. We had a special place in our house for him too, so he was a spoiled baby for the few days he was with us. I'll tell you what though, he sure was scared! Whatever moved, he hissed at it. However, taming him was a snap and we got him to eat soft cat food and he was given to his new owners the next day!
HOW HE'S DOING NOW!
He is about 12-14 weeks old and I can say to you that he is doing great! The new owner loves him and he's super playful, friendly, and purrs a lot! He loves to snuggle and give kisses as well! The owner of this kitten is http://ask-mmd-canadaand2p.deviantart.com/ and she loves him to death! His name is Chupacabra, or Chupa for short. I can say this little guy's rescue was a big success, as he is one, very happy kitty! :D
