I think the colours that are chosen work very well together as well as your silhouette , how ever a technique I think will help you get into the realm of professionalism is to keep your edges/ strokes clean (and take a look into light theory). When it comes to edges Mr. Jack a artist at blizzard http://mr--jack.deviantart.com/ doesn't clean up his shading at all keeping rough shapes in there, however he is extra careful to keep his edges clean as they help to separate forms and give a finished look without being truly finished. This is something I think you will really benefit from.
Also I like your layering of the armor and straps. Keep in mind where the armor is fastened to each other in real life and draw those various bolts or straps that hold the armor on. Otherwise keep going and make sure to record how long each piece takes you. For true portfolio pieces put in a couple hours longer then your used to.
