i seen this idea in
tehsean journal and had to doodle it, as that i just took Dan for a spin online today and it was really fun, and i nearly won cause i taunted so much the the other person started wasting there time Taunting me each time they knocked me down which gave me time to set up, i was shocked at how welll Dan's taunts actually ARE a part of his game :P.
anyways because i fell in love with Dan today, i thought i'd draw him and then i saw Seans thing so i drew him with a hammer ( i don't know if they have hammers in TF2 ), cause i thought Dan isn't useless he just has the wrong tools :P.

I never thought Dan sucked. Any game where you can pick him as a regular character (back in the days him and Akuma were only secret characters), I've always owned with him. I think only cheese-cakes don't like Dan because he doesn't have an effective fireball. I find people who throw projectiles a lot, often complain about Dan.
I'm still caught in Last Gen consoles, and as aforementioned in a previous journal by the Lovely Lady Chan, I don't do tournaments. Some of the people you play against spend all day everyday training for the soul purpose of beating others to a pulp within seconds. I like having fun when I play games.
Tournament level players fight other tournament level players so that the skill range is even.
Some people find enjoyment and fun out of exploring a game's depth and seeing how far it can be pushed until the depth of play and variety of fighting styles becomes null. Some of the best games can be played at world-class levels and still have surprises to be discovered, learned, and used as techniques.
I'm not talking about becoming good and wiping out other people.
You can take your argument and reverse it entirely. A lot of great players become teachers and give out tips instead of focusing solely on self-improvement, and elevate players who are interested in learning the esoteric details of a game, and ignoring those who don't wish to be taught.. Because.. If they want to be ignorant, then there is no reason to attempt to pursue them. They live in denial of the game's opportunity.
So that's fine. You can separate yourself from it if you'd like, but realize that there will always be people who are either lucky, creative, clever, or mathematically calculating out there playing every game created. Those people will rise above the rest as competitive spirits from their exploration of their game's mechanics.

Everything you say makes sense, but none of it sounds like "fun" at all. Every game I have I play on lower difficulty and when that gets too easy, I move to harder. I don't need to master 1000 hit combos to find challenge, and fun in that. I've always considered Combos to be cheap ways to win, even though it's the typical way that "master" do win in fighting tournaments. Unlike in the days of Killer Instinct there aren't "Combo Breakers" in games now. So if you get caught up in a combo by someone who's clearly been spending their days (and probably their nights) doing this same combo over and over again, you pretty much just have to sit there and wait till he either messes up and allows you a chance to fight back, or he kills you. I don't see the fun, or challenge, in that on either side.
Dan Hibiki as the Engineer? WHat's next, Zangief as Heavy or Crimson Viper as Spy?
Actually, go with the last one. I plan on turning C. Viper into a female version of TF2's Spy myself.
One more suggestion... if you can get the flat-top under a WWII-era Army-issue helmet, Guile would make a wonderful Soldier.

This is just hilariously awesome :) Even though I don't really know the character besides from what you've said about him, it seems to suit. And I like the idea of him having the wrong tools. :P The engineer has a spanner/wrench in the game, so indeed he does have the wrong tool here. :P
Are those tears down his face, by the way?
