Odd. What browser are you on? I noticed Safari got rather mediocre these days, internet explorer is not worth mentionning, and older versions of Firefox tend to have trouble showing stuff.
As for chrome, I know it's heralded as the best and fastest browser, but it's damn unstable and not worth the hassle unless you are an optimization junkie.

How does the browser change the picture served by FA?
It's not the browser 'image broken' icon, it's the FA 'Image Not Found' icon.

I found the bug! Firefox is supporting the use of unsigned UTF-16 characters by altering it to the proper %function while the other browser does not.
