So, yeah… I decided to print out a fully life size Nick bust! As with most things I do, for reasons. Fox reasons.
He’s from the 3D model of him I have been working on so the 3D work is all mine too. I used the first trailer as the reference for that (Nick on a plain white background facing forward, perfect reference really) to get all the proportions correct (the wireframe superimposed over that image show the proportions to be correct), I then scaled the entire model to be 4 foot tall (the height he gave on his police application form in the movie so accurate at a guess) minus ear tips so this should be exactly a 1:1 scale bust of Nick! He turned out pretty big in fact, his head being slightly larger than an average humans though that makes sense, stylistically it is large comparative to his body. I included a standard drink can in the pic for size reference and the displays behind are 27" for another size comparison.
The head itself came out to be 4KG of material with a further 1.65KG in failed prints, it was split into blocks each printed separately, each block was then sanded completely flat on the joining edges and acetone was painted onto them before the parts were pressed together to join them, it took about 3 weeks of print time, and that’s 3 weeks constant running of the printer too never pausing except to cool after each part so it could be removed, each individual part took from 8 to 12 hours with one or two ending up at 24 hour prints. And during that time the printer only caught fire once! No really it caught fire… the connector for the hotbed melted and sparked causing it to catch fire, something I found was a known design flaw in my model (wish the manufacture had bothered to tell me!) But I had it up and running again in around an hour as luckily that happened while I was there. This is honestly the biggest thing I have ever printed by far.
My next step will be to go fully over him and sand him nice and smooth over the joins before filling the gaps (somehow) then painting him.
I DO actually have a real reason for doing this! Believe it or not BUT I will leave an explanation of that for now until the likelihood of it working comes further away from the “impossible” level.

Two questions: If you were to start commissioning stuff like this, what's your price?
The other question is would it be possible to make the head wearable, something like a fursuit head?
Yeah, the questions are pretty stupid but I really like what you've made and want one badly! You earn my watch.
