it's another case wherein drawing from photoreference etc is by far the most useful tool I think-the forms are relatively transparent and obvious with a little study, and from there you can play around with them fairly easily.

Analysing at a few charismatic, recognisable armour technologies such as lorica segmentata, early 16th century european armour, japanese yoroi etc (as well as the obvious natual reference points of athropod articulation, armoured snails & so on... http://muton.blogspot.com/2006/01/a.....red-snail.html ) can prepare you pretty well for generating original & plausible sets of armour of your own that can still evoke whatever emotional responses you're after.
