Rap gets a lot of bad press for promoting violence, but it's hardly the first music genre to do so. This big band hit "Mack the Knife" became a huge hit for singer Bobby Darin back when it was released in 1959, even though it's an ode to a hit man, essentially glorifying mafia culture of the 20th century. Mack the Knife has become such a part of our culture that McDonald's even used it as a basis for an ad campaign some years ago. Despite its violent overtones, it's a fun song to sing, so I wanted to do this to close out my Month of Jazz.
