That's a deep little biography. And wow, I actually remember Hurricane Andrew because I watched so much of the coverage of it on the Weather Channel (This was around the time where my current interest in severe weather began). It was amazing to see the damage, such as what happened to the Burger King headquarters on Biscayne Bay, and the immense damage to windows in downtown Miami.

Amazing hurricane and it actually turned out it's a Category 5 after all!

My house was about half a mile from the Burger King building. The stories I have Seth... fortunately we did not stay there for the storm. I had neighbors who did and it really really scared them mentally. One lady just wrapped her arms around me and cried.

That's really scary! I assume you must've suffered a lot of damage then too! Dang. I've never been through one of those and I hope I never am.

Surprisingly the house was still standing but the area actually looked a lot like one of Mel Gibson's end of times movies...

When you've spent a long time talking to someone only through an electronic medium, there is a tendency to create an image of that person based on stories and short conversations. Now and again its nice to get a reminder that everyone I talk to (on FA and elsewhere) is a person just like me; one with an interesting history, opinions formed over years and distilled through experience.

my surfer girl now lives in England and is a marathon runner - no kids yet. my granddaughter belongs to my son. the little airplane was for other friends...

Children can be surprisingly robust. I would probably succumb into depression if I had a house and it was full of water. Thankfully I don't own a house.
